Silencer or no silencer

I run a little quicker with the silencer out in my rx7.10.0 flat in the 1/8 with it in and 9.7-9.8 with it out.

hey the silencer weres that and if u take it out do u have to put somethin in its place and is it if u get a Full exhaust system ???

wow man i gotta help you with your run-ons.

the silencer is a small piece that sits in the end of the muffler, that not all exhausts come with. if you take it out your car will just be louder, you dont need to replace it with anything.

can u take a pic or somthin where it is. I got a Ms exhaust does that have one. lol im lost :). And LOOK i FIxed My run ons :) (2thumbs)

jjac28 - if the resonator is designed by someone who knows what they are doing, it can cancel out whatever frequency you like!

paulmp3 - i have no idea what resonators are available or unavailable, but if you look inside a resonator there isnt much there. if you run a resonator with the same inlet and outlet as the exhaust, there will be no loss in power.

There's a picture of one (very similar to the one I got) in the "I want a loud exhaust" thread (in this same section just a day or two ago).

I installed the resonator yesterday. I absolutely love the sound now. Especially the fact that it DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A CIVIC!!! :D

A long time ago I removed the Cat and placed a straight pipe in its place... then I isntalled a straight through exhaust similar to this one:

After that, with only one resonator, one cat, and the straight through, it made the car sound too loud... and some of the sound was a bit high pitched (especially around 3,000rpm).

So I installed a Bosal resonator where the cat used to be. Looks like this one (I know that's not it, but I couldn't find a picture in the Bosal site):

Now the sound is REALLY deep (and less loud). There is no metallic or buzzy sound at all, under any rpm range. Plus, I feel no decrease in power at all, after having the resonator put on.

Best of all, I don't have to drive around with the silencer on... unless I want to kill the sound almost completely. It now sounds loud enough (and deep enough) for me to like it, and soft enough for my wife to not complain about it.
