Should I treade my msp for mazda3? Help!!

IMO, keep the MSP...but if you're patient, there are threads in here saying that a MAZDASPEED 3 will be following the MAZDASPEED 6 in 2006...I'm crossing my fingers for that one.

I would keep the MSP also..... i was deciding on the 3 GT or the MSP when i was car shopping and it all added up to the performance and uniqueness of the car. If your thinking about a 3 wait for the MS3 next year~

An added note, i see a ton of #'s driving around here, i like the fact that i have a rare car.

I had a choice between the 3 and the speed and i choose the speed hands down. would u rather be an econobox or something original that people don't see everyday? i decided on going original.

and just out of curiosity... whats the whp/torque for a mazda3, all i know is an s is like 165 according to mazda. also know the 1/4?

160HP 150torque and in car and driver or road and track in the back pages where they list all cars stats the 1/4 is 16.3

Juan has a turbo kit out or maybe close to being out for the 2.3L engine I thought, which has more potential than an MSP engine wise before going with forged internals...

Performace:

MSP>Mazda 3 (ignoring the MZ3's looks) :)

Are you an enthusiast? If so, then see above.

I think with recent developments and a lot more aftermarket support then when it first came out the MSP has good potential now... people are putting down 250WHP on stock internals. As far as right now goes you would be right where the MSP'ers were a couple years ago if you have a 3, just waiting for the potiential to be had

true, but I would question the longevity of the MSPs putting down 250whp on stock internals. (boom01) But yes the availability of quality protege performance parts are reaching a climax now finally.

I understand but when you nearly double the power to the wheels from the stock set-up of any car, forging should be something to be seriously thinking about and longevity might not be your main goal in your mission. If you were to put down 250WHP on a 3 I would think someone would be seriously if not already going forged. Im not trying to fight with you I just think most people have a tainted view towards the MSP casue there were a lot of people just cranking up boost without thinking of the consquences and the MSP was a first car for a lot and most didnt have a lot of knowledge or care to think what they were doing to boost or whatever could cause some serious problems. I just finished reading an article about the EVO in Road and Track ( Long Term Test) where they said " in spite of all the horror stories we'd heard about owners prematurely blowing up turbos, engines and frying clutches we spent absolutly nothing on repairs..." Just trying to show a point that alot of EVO owners were probably beating the balls off their car and just thinking about power gains without thinking of the consequences and they were in the same boat as the MSP'ers blowning their engines. I just think the MSP has reached a level where the right products are out there where you can safely reach impressive numbers...
Well that was a whole lotta nothing (sleep)

3's are cool little cars, but a little too 'cute' for me. I'd keep the MSP... turbo cars rock.

the rust can be fixed with some high temp silver paint and an hour. I painted mine about two years ago and they are still fine...

I'd keep the speed too. No sense taking a loss on anything these days unless you have to.

On an unrelated note, I personally prefer the 3. I had a P5 and drove both before trading in. The hesitation issue drove me nuts on the Speed. Plus being married with a kid changes your needs. The 3 with the Nav, leather, HID, ABS, etc.. was just a better choice. I also wouldn't discredit the 3 performance wise either. It handles very well even with the crappy Goodyear RS-A tires on it. I think a good set of skins will make this thing handle VERY well.

NOOOO no no nOOOO no NOOONNOOOOOOOOO DUDE...I have driven and beaten on 3s extensively when I was selling Mazdas...and they don't really compare to our car. Not nearly as fun...it's a great everyday commuter car...but seriously, boring as hell compared to a MSP.
