mazda wants 95 a hour for install of the cai and supposedly it takes 2 hours...im not really down for paying 200 for install...who has done the install themselves? who has driven the car through rain? i just want some reassurance..i know i can install this s*** myself, but for the fear of BOOM i just wanna hear what i can....

personally, I would have paid 2 hours. Mine wanted more. It's east to do the install. I've run through all sorts of water and not had any issues. **** it, just do it :)

Stop posting, do a quick search through the multitude of "I got my MS CAI" and "MS CAI questions" and the like and install the sucker.

Bumper is EASY to pull off or go through the wheel well. Only basic tools needed and very few of them. No problems with car washes or puddles.

do it yourself, you have a step by step instruction, the only time you should worry about water is if your being a dumbass driving through huge puddles of water in a factory lowered car

The onlyupside I can think of for dealer install is so that it is covered under warranty?

I would do it myself, take my time, and be out there poppin' wheelies before you know it.

Sorry to tell you this but the cai is not covered under warranty its only a parts warranty if installed by dealer. No labor. I work for a mazda dealership and one of techs installed it for me. I watched him took about hour and a half. Let them do it the protective shield is hard to put on.

ey they tld me warrantied 12k miles if they install it..so after that either way im ****** and i could save 200 for rear engine mount and other s*** like intercooler...im nost likely gona install myself just wanted ot hear your guys say....thanks

+1, my mazda told me i could install it myself and have no warranty issues...They honored it...But they are bad ass, they had the TSB months ago

Was just at my dealer today and tried to wheel and deal a price on the CAI and the guy was a DICK about it. The dealer sent me a 15% off any part thanking me for the purchase of the car so when I tried to use it the parts guy upped the cost of the CAI saying that he couldnt sell it cheaper.

I laughed and told him I can get it for $110 all day long online and he tried to tell me it was a fake until I showed him the web site then he shut his mouth.

Any way he said that its BS that the dealer has to instal to maintain warranty and if its put on correctly then that is all that matters. Besides if not on correctly the car wouldnt run for crap and you should be able to tell.

I am going to instal myself as well and just take the bumper off using the injens instal directions.

There was another kid at the dealer with the same MS3 and had a CAI and he took me for a ride and it was a noticable difference over my stock MS3.

I am sold and so should be anyone else with a MS3.

Same here. The funny thing is the closest Mazda dealer south of me wants to install any Mazdaspeed part in order to "maintan" the warranty, but I can go maybe 10 miles further north and that Mazda dealer said I can install any of the Mazdaspeed products myself with no warranty worries at all. Also, I was told the part itself is what comes with the warranty and it's up to each individual dealer if they wan't to warranty the install and not charge you in the event you need to have any Mazdaspeed part replaced.

Anyhow if you plan to further modify your car in the future, a CAI is about as easy as it gets. It's just time consuming because it's your new car and your not exactly sure how things are removed or installed and like anyone you take your time. No worries a CAI is easy.

please avert your eyes to my post as you work at my servicing dealer. I have no CAI and never have (angel) My car is 100% bog standard and will be if I ever need warranty work (second)

I am doing it myself as well, screw the dealer install.

As I said I talked to both the service dept and the parts mgr and they confirm that the warranty is only affected by using after market but not by using genuine parts regardless of of who installed them if doen properly.

Hey guys! That is wrong... You can install any aftermarket part on a car and not void your warranty. The catch is they have to prove that the aftermarket part is what damaged your car or broke said named part. That is fact and that is LAW!!! Trust me as I have witnessed it first hand in court.

Now, a perk to installing a Mazdaspeed part is, say the Mazdaspeed CAI causes your MAF sensor to go out. We'll being a "Mazda" speed part, if they were to say your CAI caused it, that would mean Mazda produced a defective OEM factory approved performance part and thus must accept the responsibility and replace your MAF Sensor. Now if you have any aftermarket CAI and your MAF Sensor goes out, and it's proven that the CAI caused it, we'll your buying a new MAF Sensor. It's Mazda's or any of the auto manufactures way to get you to buy there stuff. As far as what we are offered by Mazdaspeed, there products are very nice and of high quality.

yeah that is pretty much what they said but the risk of them blamming me isnt worth at small savings by using an after market CAI vs the MS version.
