Should I be scared

well i installed my SMIC and will be installing my PG Intake mani this weekend if i get it. But my question is should i be afraid to floor it? In fear of breaking the engine. There is so many people saying how weak our engine is but is it that weak?

All of my mods are in my sig.

Keep the boost under 10psi and you should be good to go. Just don't lug the engine, meaning don't load it up (over 5psi) in the lower rpm range (under 3k) in 3rd/4th/5th. I think that's how my engine is still alive at 99k miles with daily beating at 9psi for most of it's life.

thanks that makes me feel better. Even with the added power of the intake mani i should still be (taco bell guy)"good to go"?

and i love the smic CustomMSP

Glad you like it!

With those two modifications you're actually reducing the strain on the engine, because now it doesn't have to work as hard to produce the same amount of power. What this means is that if before these two mods you were boosting 8psi and making around 165whp, now you can boost the same and make around 180whp because of the released backpressure inside the engine. However, there is added stress on the drivetrain due to extra torque from the modifications. The extra power from these two mods is not enough to destroy your drivetrain though, so don't worry :) Just watch out for the weak factory lsd!

Take care.

thanks for the help. i have been worried for the past 2 days and haven't boosted at all lol. now i need to go for a drive (drive2) (nana) (alright)

99k miles?!MSP?! sweet i thought my engine was old, 95K and going strong
and yeah everything should be safe if you keep the boost at safe levels.

bump for agreeing. when i run mine quickly i like doing like 4k-redline shifts in 2nd. . . I dont do them too much though - should I be worried about breaking anything at stock boost? Also, this is just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever launched their car like, hard. I mean like, drag racing style 5,000 rpm clutch dump launch? I honestly feel like if i even tried that ONCE (not going to), the car would explode. =P

lol. . . yeah, i just couldnt see how the car could take that. . . oh, also, now, this most likely has nothing to do with our cars, i think its just a principle of stick shift (and I'm a complete newbie so please dont flame) but how come when you shift from say 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd while driving fast, if you slip the clutch a bit during the shift instead of just dropping it, why does it seem to pull you forward, almost as if its like slipping you forward faster? do you know what I mean?

There's still enough load on the engine to spool the turbo. So when you fully release the clutch you are in a better part of the powerband.

ha, yeah, i dont do it on purpose / have only felt it like twice. Also, back on topic, GhostMercury, how you likin the FMIC? Where did you buy it from? Did you notice a big difference in performance when you put it on or not really?

i got the custommsp SMIC and i noticed a difference. i like the way the car feels now and once i get the pg intake mani in i know i will fall in love with the car once again

i run my car @ 12psi ever since i bought it and that was almost 4 yrs ago and no problems, and i have too many times taken off at 5500rpm and havent had to buy a new lsd. everyone here is so scared of going above 10psi.

You and I are a rare case, most other people are not as lucky.

CustomMSP, do you sell your SMIC's personally? or is there a store I can get one from? Not to say that I have any money right now, being 16 and paying for half the car + gas = close to broke. but thats alright because I take good care of it and its my baby =]. but my paychecks are coming in now and I'd like to save for a SMIC as heat soak in FL SUCKS.

im 19 paying for my own car and after the car payment and gas i know exactly how you feel. but saving for stuff for the msp is fun. you can get the smic from protegegarage.com
