Should I $40-60 for my CAI to be installed???

:
MSP & MS3
I have an MSP and just got my Injen CAI. Reading through the instructions (they're terrible) and the How-To on this site (pretty good) I figured I'd be able to do it myself.... thing is, I'm worried I'm going to break something. Not only that but, I can't even get the damn 10mm nuts off the stupid airbox!! I just keep stripping them everytime I try to take them off. I was surpised when the guy at a shop quoted me 40-60... What do you guys think? Should I invest in some better tools and some type of lift (to install the filter) or just bring it to the pros and let them do it.

Do it yourself, and learn how to work on your car. Its the only way to learn. If you break something, all I can say is "welcome to the world of performance adding!!!!" :D

$40-60 for 20 minutes? Aren't there any members in the area that can come over and help you out? I would if I wasn't 3,000 miles away. Offer some beer, maybe that'll help. Arrange a mini meet and Injen install day!

If you must, it's an easy install, just take your time and look at things to see how they work. Hardest part is getting to the hose clamps on the turbo, but you can do them from underneath without jacking up the car.

Do it yourself, it is not hard! Seriously this is the most basic mod, and a good time to learn about a car.
If you are stripping them then dry some WD-40 and loosen them up plus get better tools. (A socket with more teeth would be helpful)

The closest member on this board (that I know of at least) is a good 45-60 minutes away. (Servoeyes) I'm not even sure HE knows how to do this stuff. Even if he does, driving that far (couldn't possibly expect him to come down here) would be somewhat pointless when I could just drive down the road (where this shop is) and have them do it. As for the 20 minutes... most of the threads I've read state it'll take a good hour (or more) so with that being said, $40-60 isn't TOO bad.

Now for the record, I'm generally the type that likes to do this stuff myself. Hell, I practically built the house I'm living in! But when it comes to cars... Let's just say I don't want ride my bike to work tomorrow!! All kidding aside, I DID try and put this sucker on... but I couldn't even get past taking the stupid airbox off!! The bolts they put on there must've been tightened by the man of steel! I nearly popped a blood vessel trying to unscrew one of those damn things. I don't know guys... trust me, I wish I didn't have to bring it somewhere but I just can't see any other way around it at this point.

stupid question, but you are using metric wrenches right? i destroyed a bolt when i was changing my exhaust cause i went to do it at a friends and accidently brought my standard socket set with me and decided to forge on regardless...needless to say, my standard set is packed away now

I have the Spool CAI, but I could help you install the injen intake. I don't think I live to far away. I'd drive the hour to help ya out. Just let me know if you want some help. Maybe this weekend I could come.

WTF, the Injen takes like 45 minutes to install, and damn well you should do it yourself. It's not that hard, really. But hey if you like spending your money, go for it

xxMSPxx really cool of you bro!! I think I'm going to take the advice of most of the people on this forum and just do it myself!! Obviously I'll have to invest in some good tools!! The chintzy pliers and rusty wrenches just aren't doin the job!! Anywayz... thanks for kickin my ass and getting me going in the right direction. Money aside, knowing that I did it myself will be well worth the forseeable aggrivation and what not.

Not to mention... $40-60 might not seem like a lot... until you properly put it into perspective!! That is.. 2-3 lap dances!! Enough said!!

Or a boost gauge.

Take the help, always more fun with buddies. (except for the lap dances)

Oh yeah... got side tracked. xxMSPxx I'd feel a little "weird" about you driving all the way out here to help me out... but hey man, if you seriously don't mind... or if you want me to drive up there... like Britt said, I'd be a fool not to take the help! And naturally, a 6 pack (or case, depending on how much of a lush you are! lol) of your fav beer is as good as in your fridge.

Go to the spool meet in october. We could have that thing put in in a matter of minutes (probably 59, but hey, sill minutes right?).

still minutes indeed.... but dude!! you live in NC and I'm in CT!! Where the F is this "spool meet"??? LOL sorry... not trying to be a dick (actually, really cool to see people so "helpful") if you've ever been to CT... you'd understand why!! Like most of you, I'm the impatient type and want this badboy in asap!! getting sick of starting at it on my couch!!

PM me if you want me to come help. Oh yeah Im a lush, just not when I'm driving though. I won't put my MSP in that kind of danger, just can't do it. Just let me know if you need help. I am free this weekend.

I say do it your self or get someone from the board to help you. I installed my HID's after the place said it would cost $170 and 2hrs to install them.

Spend the $60 on some tools, do it yourself, and you'll still have the tools.:p

The meet is at spools shop in VA. It will be a pretty large meet and a great opportunity for you to learn about mods and how to install them if you take advantage of the situation. I would be happy to bring my tools and with the help of a few other people could probably get that thing in pretty quick if it comes to that. Your best be is getting someones help if you aren't too confident.

The bottom line is don't pay anyone to install a mod that most people can do with minimal effort. You could probably get someone on the forum to do for Beer.50 an hour and a signing bonus of a pizza.
