Short Ram intake '99 Protege LX

I'm either going to buy the AEM or the WEAPONR intakes for the 1.6L, however, I've heard somewhere else that buying JUST the kits aren't enough for installation? Or is this untrue. If so, what else do I need to buy?

This'll be my first time doing anything to my car - I've only put a K&N air filter inside so far. Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated!

I've looked around, and saw that a 00+ Celica GT-S MAF is the way to go with a non-stock intake. I'm also looking at getting an ECU, are those for manuals only? I'm driving an automatic.
