shock

Are you sure a ground strap wouldn't work? I know back in the day gasoline trucks used to drag brass chains behind them (brass, not steel so they wouldn't spark) which were later replaced with ground straps. I had understood that the reason was to ground static electricity to prevent the accidental ignition of fuel vapors around the vehicle but I could be wrong.
On a vehical yes, I was refering to on a person

well hmm.

i just don t want to go telling everybody hey touch the metal of my car as u step out and if u don t then be forwarned of a possible shock! so i wonder if some creativity might solve this problem. how about a brainstorm here.

lets just think of all the things we normally touch when we get out of the car. Seat belt/buckle and the door handle for sure. so some of u have gotten used to putting ur hand on some metal area when u get out which works fine but what if u fail to tell ur passenger(s) to grab some metal as they step out and then ZZAP! to late.

maybe we could bolt a small incognito "grounding" peice of metal inside the rubber door handle (inside door panel) that way an unsuspecting shocked-passenger ends up grounding themeselves by means of touching the metal piece bolted inside the door handle strategically placed to spare them of the shock.

how does this idea sound?

I like the Peter Gibbons screw driver method personally. Yeaaaaaa...I'm also going to need you to come in on Sunday tooooo, mmmmmkkay that would be grrreat.(rlaugh)

I can't believe I found this thread. I thought it was just my car that was doing this. I decided to do a search after my wife got so pissed off from getting shocked when closing the door. I pretty much got used to it but she is now using her purse or her shoe to close the door which bothers me. Has anyone pinpointed the reason as to why ours cars are so electrostatically charged? It's got to be something other than just building static charge from the carpet and cloth seats.

Nope, thats it. You and the car develop a static charge and then discharge it trhough the cars metal. Any car will do this and cloth seats just make it more common then leather ones.

I can't even remeber the last time I got shocked as I always exit the car by touching metal as I get up out of the seat.

I have always have had different cars with cloth seats and this never happened with any of those. What makes this car so staticy.

dont shuffle your feet on the carpet when shifting. it is probably like when you shuffle your feet on carpet walking or dont pick them up all the way when walking. make yaget a static charge

Just that type of seat material interacting with your type of clothing.
