shifter binding

so, ive had some problem with my B&M short shifter for my P5, when the car gets hot, the shifter gets harder and harder to shift. so if i drive for 20 or 30 minutes, then park, when i get back in the shifter barely moves. i took it to the shop that installed it and they said maybe it had to do with the clutch and pressure plate, i then went to my dealership and the guy there said that "the shifter was binding". i have no idea what this means. any help?

i think it means the mechanic's try'n to stiff you and the dealer's happy it's an aftermarket part so he can make an evaluation by looking through your window and send you on your way. i don't have one personally but i've heard about making sure it was greased properly. i would think a non greased dry shifter would definitely not feel good. pop the plate off that the boot goes into and take a look. it comes off very easily

heat from the exhaust is heating up the shifter, causing it to expand into the bushing
the B&M uses a solid bushing design... using bronzoil bushings

you'll have to either make a custom heat shield directly under the shifter, or live with it till the shifter is broken in

ive had the shifter for close to two years now...if i were to switch it out and get a diff shifter, do you think the same thing would happen

will not happen with our setup. i had a B&M shifter in my old P5 for exactly two days. i hated the thing. i had the same problem you had. week later i had the first proto Kartboy shifter for the Protege. the rest is shifter history :)
