So I have been having some loud shifts that seemed like is was coming from the shifter or base (stock shifter) or something. So I took the cup holders and stuff off, and realized that Mazda seems to have skimped on the grease for the shifter ball, I re-disturbed some of the grease with a QTip which got rid of the metal-on-metal, clicky shifts and made shifting sooo much smoother. However, over time the grease is distributing itself how it wants.

Anyways, I am looking for the Mazda part # of the grease for the "ball." Otherwise, can I just go to Farm & Fleet and get some Mobil1 Grease? What "weight" do I go with?

Thanks

You could basically use any grease that you wanted to in there. I would go with something thats middle weight as you don't want to to thick and "gummy". When I installed my short shifter I use some grease called Red Devil, I got it from a bike shop and it's used to grease wheel hub, headset, and bottom bracket bearings so I figured it would work well in the shifter. So far I have been very happy with it. It's also very common to use white lithium grease as well. Hope this helps some

Thanks. I've actually heard to stray away from White Lithium because it eats plastic and also hardens with age. I may look into the Red Devil however.

subbed for update. mine is pretty dry too. let us know if one or the other ends up working for you
