OK, i know i'm new to this site, & i did a search but there is no explaination on how to remove the stock shift knob. does it simply unscrew off? wasn't sure & didn't want to destroy anyting.
Also, if it is just a simply screw on & off type situation what holds the shift boot on & can i replace the knob with any other kinds? i.e. i used to own a 2000 Civic SI & swapped my sotck knob out for a DC sports & type R one, they were threaded to the same thread so the new ones simply screwed right on. is the thread on the mazda's shifter a standard size?
if anyone has replaced thir shift know i'd love to see/know what they went with.
many thanks, guys!
Cheers

this is what a voodoo knob looks like:

they are originally made for the miata, but the threads are the same as the protege.

YES, the shifter knob just screws on and off.....the threads are 10mm, just don't remember the exact thread pitch at the moment.
