Several questions about 09s

I am a new member here from Toronto. I am contemplating getting me a Mazda 5 and have some questions to current owners.

1. Is the suspension issue during cold weather still present in 09 or was it specific to prior years?

2. How's the interior quality? Any rattles, pops, buzzes? Any panel misalignments? Btw, is there any difference between later years and the early years?

3. How's the cabin noise levels? Believe it or not, I'd prefer some level of noise ...In quiet cars I end up listening to every imperfection there is and it eventually drives me bananas

I guess I'm the first to chime in.

I haven't noticed an inordinate amount of rattles; the major exception being the plastic cowl trim around the base of the windshield. I've disassembled mine (not really a big deal) and applied weatherstipping in different areas-- that seems to have quelled the noise. I haven't noted any suspension rattles at all.

Interior trim durability is OK-- it depends on how you use it. The plastic components of the interior will scratch easily-- something I've accepted but try to minimize.

For a small van/wagon the interior is remarkably quiet all the way up to highway speeds, the outside mirrors generatiing the most amount of noise. I've added more sound deadener to the rear in anticipation of a full stereo install but otherwise won't bother with adding much more.

Nope all improved bushings...

2. How's the interior quality? Any rattles, pops, buzzes? Any panel misalignments? Btw, is there any difference between later years and the early years?

All good japanese quality as always...later years have second row fan and armrests on all seats but the 3rd row. Secondly side sils on the GS model are now only on the GT model.
MP3 input...etc.

3. How's the cabin noise levels? Believe it or not, I'd prefer some level of noise ...In quiet cars I end up listening to every imperfection there is and it eventually drives me bananas

You will be content with the level...acceptible and you will not look for issues as you say.

Yury, I just saw this and thought I'd toss in my 2 cents... My comparison, is a 2006 Toyota Sienna (which I still have and actually drove yesterday)

1. Is the suspension issue during cold weather still present in 09 or was it specific to prior years? I cannot comment on this, as we have only had the 5 for about 3 weeks. Besides, we live in Southern California. It was chilly yesterday, at 65 degrees!


2. How's the interior quality? Any rattles, pops, buzzes? Any panel misalignments? Btw, is there any difference between later years and the early years? I am pretty satisfied with the interior. The things I would change are design things, not quality issues. I don't have any rattles or noises and the panels seem to fit very well. The Sienna, has a rattle in the dash, up by the windshield that drives me batty!

3. How's the cabin noise levels? Compaired to the Sienna, the 5 is quite noisy. But just reviewing the 5, I'm okay with the level of noise. You hear the road a bit but no at all excessive. On the freeway, it's not as if you have to crank up the stereo to hear it and cover the road noise. My MIL (I love her dearly but is a horrible car snob) adores my new 5 and she hasn't said anything about the noise level (I promise, if she thought it was loud, she would say so.)

-We bought our 2009 M5 in December 08, trading in a 2000 MPV. I'm the primary driver and my wife has a 2006 Matrix. I have less than 10,000 km on it (and the winters are not particularly demanding here but here are my answers for you:
1. Is the suspension issue during cold weather still present in 09 or was it specific to prior years?
- Nothing that I've noticed and the dealers claimed that all 5s come with a new type bushing.
2. How's the interior quality? Any rattles, pops, buzzes? Any panel misalignments? Btw, is there any difference between later years and the early years?
- Haven't seen any issues with interior fit or finish

- Far quieter than my old MPV or my wife's Matrix.
