Selling P5

I am proabably going to be selling my Protege5 for a Nissan Altima. The dealer will only give me $12,000 for my Protege. It has every option except the polished wheels. It has only 7,600 miles. What would be a good selling price for my car?

I paid $14,650 about 4 months ago at a dealership for a "demo" with 5400 miles on it - A basic one, with no options.

I would think a private sale should get you somewhere between $14and $15K - Just guessing though.

Maybe Nate will chime in here - He just completed the opposite move, from an Altima to a P5.

Well dont have much to say, I wouldn't sell my P5 without a gun held to my head :) The car I sold was a '97 Altima with 60K miles....sold for $7300. I assume the Altima you will be buying is brand new?

For the P5 price, I would check out Edmunds.com etc...I think Don's $14-15K sounds resonable.

Yeah it is a brand new Altima 3.5SE with the V6 motor. More power. That is the biggest reason I'm considering this. Thanks for the help.

i think it would be hard for you to get $14-15k, when a new one can be had for $15-16k. i would think that $12-13k would be more like it. if you financed it, advertise it for $500-750 more than what you owe on it, and see what happens.

New cars take thier biggest depreciation hit in the first year and 12k miles... as you've just learned.

I agree with the advice above... advertise it privately for about a bit more then you owe and hope to break even in the end.

Trading in cars every year is a lose/lose proposition. If you plan to or want to switch often, I highly sugget you lease next time.

My car is paid for. When I traded in my 98 BMW 323is I only had to pay a small difference. Sticker was $19,100 for the protege. I just can't afford much of a car payment right now.
