self-satisfied smug Prius owners-- hate 'em

On top of the $3000 premium price, and 6 month waiting backlog. It's more of a feel good car, until the price comes down. I did the math and for the miles I drive now I'd have to keep it for 7 years to earn back the cost, at a gas price of $2.20. (It's now back down to $2.07 in my area, so.....)

especially considering that they dont really save any real money because you have to replace the battery every 4-5 years and costs $3000

I think some states give like $2000 tax incentives for those vehicles.

I'm still not saying they are worth it though.

I hate SUV drivers. period.

the whole mentality of "wll i feel safer in an SUV" is stupid... cuz that means you admit you're a bad driver and if you get in an accident, all you'll do is kill LOTS of innocent people.

not a story about a Prius driver, but a hybrid driver arrogance nonetheless:

so I was at the gas station filling up the 8 one day (gee no kidding :D ), and this guy comes up to me and start asking me if I liked my 8 and what not. I gave him the standard "I love the way it drives" answer, then the next question he asked was, "how's the gas mileage on this car?" I stopped, looked around, and noticed he's driving a Honda Insight. Instead of telling him what I actually get in mileage and allowing him to feel smug about his gas mileage superiority over my 8, I just said "it gets what I expect it to get" and quickly ended the conversation.

maybe i was overreacting, but i mean, if someone that drives a hybrid car comes up to you and the 2nd question they asks is gas mileage, what DO YOU think their intention is? to make themselves feel better of course

You should have offered to race him down a mountain road. And said "even a friggin' Insight's gas mileage is quite low after it's wrapped around a tree and the fuel tank's ruptured". :D

Seriously though, how good is the rx-8 mileage? I understand it's not great, but I really am curious cause I am interested in rotaries. It is supposed to have improved from previous rx-7's right?

^^ he gets what he expects to get, which is higher than what rx-7 owners expect to get

:D

they say it's improved, but actually it didn't improve by much at all

i average 18-20mpg in mixed city/hwy driving :p

We have alot of rednecks in my area and they have this big promo going on with buckling your seatbelt in your truck or SUV saying dont be stupid. I have so many trucks ride my ass when im already speeding.

Autoweek says that it will take 250,000 miles to earn the money back in gas over just choosing a corolla. The hybrid Civic will take 333,000 miles...

The hybrids are not worth it until the price of the technology comes down...

You know the hybrid isn't operating at the best efficiency during highway cruise speed, because it is basically is a gasoline engine. It's best only in urban driving or traffic jam. I say a diesel (more $$ though) for highway cruising. But prius is cool such an unbelievable low Cd!!! makes the pro look like a drag, no pun intended

I wonder if they actually think they're making a difference? lol Thats ok, cuz I'll use up all the gas they just saved when I floor it to pass 'em.......... (laugh)

P.S. I'm refering to the ppl who buy these things for enviromentalist reasons, not the ones who just wanna save some gas for financial reasons. And another thing : Why must hybrids be so damn ugly? The only ones that look alright are the GM's, which are just regular vehicles mechanicly modified.

The Civic hybrid looks perfectly normal... i wish Honda whored it out more than it does... gets something like 52mpg.

I used to want a hybrid...then I actually learned a s*** about cars, and now I don't want anything to do with em..

Ha, I stand corrected. Forgot about the civic. Eh, they can have their little hybrids. I'll stick with good 'ol gasoline. Time to build up my bug now.......into a high powered dual-carbed gas hog. Should get around 15mpg when I'm done spec'ing and building the engine.
