Seat heaters draining battery

Dealer called us yesterday to setup an appointment to install our replacement part (whatever it is).

Amshah97, I have not had a dead battery but my seats were unhooked by the dealer before I recieved the vehicle. From what people say on here the battery dies when the car is shut off whether you left/had your seat warmers on or not.

Amshah97 -- this was happening on mine without the seat heaters being on.

I suspect maybe not all of them are affected.

Also, when my seat heaters were on, they did not get very warm.

We purchased a new 2010 CX-9 in late November. It has now been in the shop for the past 22 days. The issue was the battery would drain down completely in the matter of just a few hours. The dealership has tracked it down to a problem with the front seat heaters. They have indicated that Mazda is aware of this problem but they don't really have a fix for it. Seems very odd to me. Direct contact with Mazda has not provided me with answers. Has anyone else had this problem? Someday I'd like to be able to drive our new car again. They are coming up dangerously close to lemon law territory if they don't get this figured out. Again, just curious if anyone else has had this issue.
WE have/had the same problem. Bought 2010 CX-9 in November and battery drained in Dec. Dealer disconnected the seat heaters mid-December until Mazda Japan could come up with the fix. They repaired them 2nd week of Jan. No problem so far. Anyone else have the repair done so far?

I just made an appointment to have my seat heaters fixed. The service advisor said the repair is replacing the wiring harnesses.

I suspect not all 2010's have had an issue (at least I hope not). We picked our CX-9 in late November as well and so far so good. On the high setting it gets really warm really fast. No battery issues at all. Hope this isn't the "kiss of death" to mention it.

The first guy told me there was a short in the element... and I told him it didnt make since...
Well, they then told us there was a short in the wiring on some 2010s... They checked our vehicle based on the TSB and said our did not have an issue... so they did not replace the harness and just plugged them up.

Hopefully our's will not have an issue.

i feel ur pain mazda owners i work at a ford lincoln mazda dealer and we've had 2 cx9s with that issue we even had to engineers come to the shop to investigate it. at first it was a ground issue that caused the drain but now they have a new seat module being shipped to address the issue hope it works!! we take delivery of our 2010 cx9 next week hope i dont have to go thru all that headache!!

New Mazda Owner - Same Problem

My wife and I just purchased a 2010 CX-9 GT two days ago. Today we had the dead battery issue. Very frustrating for a brand new car. Mazda Roadside came to jump it, and my wife is taking it in shortly. I alerted the sales manager at my dealership to the information posted here (thank you everyone). He was unaware of the issue. I will post back with the results of our service.

Interestingly enough, the CX-9 in the showroom had a dead battery. Didn't surprise me at the time (people leaving things on for hours). But now I think it may have had the same issue.

Thanks again for having such a fantastic forum. As a first time Mazda owner, this experience has been... well... I can't think of the words, but I'm sure you get the idea.

I rather deal with with a dead battery and/or no seat warmers then having my vehicle accelerate on its own. Dont let this minor inconvenience fog up Mazda's image, there is a fix for this already, its just a metter of dealerships getting the parts.

hopes this helps some people and clarifies a few things
rest assured that this WILL most likely turn into a true recall

I purchased a Touring in November and shortly there after the seat warmer got stuck on and drained the battery.

apparently mine was the first one in Omaha to have this problem so nobody had a clue why it was faulty.

initially we just pulled the fuse, then disconnected the module.
they then thought that it might be the Environmental control module so they ordered one of those (which took almost a month to get in)

still didn't work.

after another 2 weeks Mazda finally shipped a "Fix" box to the dealership.

this $1400 box contained one new heating element for the seats and a 19 page guide for installation and inspection. (i tried to get a copy of the manual for this to post up here but since it was the only one they had they couldn't give it out to me.

this involved removing part of the dash to check all the wiring associated with the seat warmer, as well as the removal and disassembly of the seat.

All said and done it works great now! glad it was done under warranty though!

so what did they find?

Here is my passenger heating element
no wonder my wife said her ass was on fire and it smelled a little funny! lol

I am in the Omaha area and looking to get a Touring AWD. Did you purchase the car from Woodhouse? Could you share with me the price you paid? Thanks.

I live in Mexico and have a 2010 CX9 Touring. I have had no problems at all after 2 months, but today one of the major newspapers here has a note stating that Mazda Mexico is recalling 2010 CX9 to fix a problem with the seat heaters. Apparently they are fixing a new harness with improved earth or something like that.

I called Mazda's customer service number and the directed me to the dealer to check to see if the VIN is affected. The dealer told me I need to drive there to check. I'll do it when service comes due.

2010 Seat Warmer Recall

http://money.cnn.com/2010/03/03/autos/mazda_recall/index.htm?source=cnn_bin&hpt=Sbin

Mazda is issuing the recall for the seat warmer problem. I just purchased my CX-9 3 weeks ago, but haven't had the problem yet. I called Mazda USA to check if my vehicle was in the recall and the girl I talked to didn't have the VIN list yet, but said the recall will be sent to owners on March 9th, so I can call and check back then. Unless I start to have a problem, then I can go to a dealership and get it fixed.
