Seafoam questionsl with 2.0

Got a quick question concerning seafoaming this engine. I've always tried to seafoam a vehicle shortly after I get it. My question is do I need to be worried about doing it to the 2.0 since it runs such high compression?
 
Why in the world would you run that kind of crap through a perfectly good engine? Just about every forum I've ever been on (except BMW!) there's always someone that thinks creating a lot of exhaust smoke for a couple of minutes somehow translates into doing something marvelous for the engine.
 
Well, since you can pour it in the fuel, pour it in the oil, or pour into the intake, which method are you planning on trying?

What symptoms are you having that you are trying to fix?
 
I would stick with a fuel system cleaner, because out piston heads can get carbon easily due to the design, and there is a direct injection cleaner you spray into the intake (post maf sensor).
 
No. Don't do that. Seafoam works great in carburetors.

You can use Redline Fuel System Cleaner in the tank and you will see a difference, *IF* you've had injector fouling. If not you won't be able to tell the difference, but I've used it enough and looked at spark plugs afterwards enough to have faith it will clean, or keep clean, an engine. I've been doing it about every 10k miles, but every oil change might be an easier interval to remember.
 
You do realize that the sea foam white smoke is NOT carbon (as carbon is med grey in color) and what you see is the pale oil burning off. When you see a car puff a grey cloud upon its acceleration, that's some carbon. Is it from the exhaust pipes, cat, or piston heads or valves.
I suggest you look at the sea foam MSDS and the ingredients. You can go to the hardware store and build your own mix.

About once a year I would pure 2 Qts of mineral spirits AND Lacquer thinner in my BMW tank fill up, and run it for a day
Let it sit over night then take a long drive. Yes it made a difference for the better. When I sold my BMW it had 207,578.3 miles and NEVER had any issues and was getting 26 city /30 hwy.
you can learn a lot from the MSDS sheets for these "cleaners"..

It's just something I've always done. I am aware the smoke isn't necessarily carbon, more or less just steam. The car didn't rrally have any symptoms I was trying to clear up. Just something I've always done after acquiring a new vehicle. It's part if my preventative maintenance I guess. I try and change all the fluids and such so I am up to date on everything within the first month of getting a vehicle. I ran it Sunday with no issues. Ran 1/2 bottle in the oil and drove for 50ish miles. I ran a can of gumout multi maintenance or something those lines through the tank. I was just curious if anyone had any ill effects since these have such high compression.
 
That's interesting. I will have to look into the chemicals from now on. The only reason I grabbed the gumout was it seemed to get good reviews and is relatively cheap(6.34 at wally world)
