Scratch

I accidentally knocked some items off a shelf in the garage and damaged the front right of my finish. Several small white lines now in my Crystal Blue finish. Any ideas how I can fix it?

Try and buff it out, perhaps you may need some touch up paint. Hard to tell without seeing the scratch and how deep or superficial it is. I've gotten several on mine. I got a good one on the front from what I believe to be from a rock thrown up into my car on the highway. But a nice deep scratch. Required touch up paint to just try and hide it.

There are some scratch removal kits out there as well, but I'm skeptical. If the paint is scratched away, its scratched away. But buffing it can help a little.

Hard to give any ideas without seeing a picture of it...

Take a close up pic and then we can see if it is just in the clear coat, the color coat, the primer coat, or down to metal...

Auto parts stores sell all kinds of scratch removers for this purpose.

If you run your fingernail against the scratch, can you feel it? If so it is past at least one layer of coating. Could be deeper but hard to know for sure with out seeing it. You have 3 layers of coat before the metal, Clear, color, primer, then the metal. Mazda has galvanized the sheet metal so you have a tiny bit of protection before rust forms if it's down to metal but not thru the galvanized layer. If you can't feel it with your finger nail get some decent polishing compound, Meguiars 105 or Ultimate compound work pretty good. A dual Action polisher or rotary polisher will make quick work of it, just be careful with a rotary style polisher as you can burn the paint and induce holograms pretty easily. If you don't have any of those tools you can try one of those drill attachments that have different foam pads for polishing.

If it is just some small white lines like a scuff you should be able to get them out with just about any car polish, if not then try some 3M rubbing compound.

Pretty Sure rubbing compound can fix at least some if not most of those scratches. On a previous car I backed up into a concrete wall and had scratches on my bumper. Hand buffed rubbing compound and then wax. 95% gone. Wasn't going to spend hundreds to get it 100% correct.

Yes, that looks like it will buff right out! Looks like a lot is just transfer from whatever hit against it.

Ideally you want to start with the least aggressive compound, which is called a cleaner wax, and go more aggressive if needed.

1. Cleaner Wax
2. Polishing compound
3. Scratch Remover
4. Rubbing Compound

Take it to a professional detailer. Most of those will buff out. The last one will probably need more attention.
