Schumacher commandeers taxi

We certainly know the stress of running late for a flight and having a cab driver at the helm who slams on his brakes for every yellow light. A similar situation is apparently no problem for former Formula One star Michael Schumacher.

Over the weekend, Schumacher took over the wheel of his taxi when he was perilously close to missing his plane, according to news wire Agence France-Presse. Schumacher was in Gehuelz, Germany, with his wife and two children to pick up a new Australian Shepherd puppy named Ed.

Needing to get to the airport in Coburg as quickly as possible, Schumacher asked the taxi driver to let the F1 champ take control. Driver Tuncer Yilmaz relented, and looked on in stunned silence from the passenger seat of his own taxi as Schumacher flashed back to his racing days.

"I found myself in the passenger seat, which was strange enough, but to have 'Schumi' behind the wheel of my cab was incredible," Mr Yilmaz told a local newspaper.

"He drove at full throttle around the corners and over-took in some unbelievable places."

Although there is no word on if the Schumachers caught their flight, Schumi did take care of Yiilmaz, giving him 100 Euros over the 60 Euro fare.

Schumacher's spokesperson confirmed the story for AFP.

Thats not fair. Schuey paid him. I would pay Schuey to drive my car with me it.

lol i read about that...basically told his bro to stop embarassing himself by continuing to drive lol

more details about the incident, according to a poster from autoblog (poster definitely not a native english speaker):

The story right...

Schmacher and his family fly to Coburg from there they took a 7 seater Taxi driven by Tuncer Yilmaz, the taxi driver drove Schmacher his family and bodyguard to a friend of Corrina Schumacher. This freind from Corinna is a dog breeder, there the Schumacher kids choose a Aussi shepherd dog which they called Ed. The kids played 2hous with Ed till the bodyguard reminded Schumacher that he is late and has to move because he had a date in Italy at Ferrari. The way back to the airport Michael Schumacher drove the Taxi.... The Taxi driver claimed that his drive style was mindblowing smooth.. he had the feeling that Michael turned corners into straights.. the fastest ride ever in his Taxi 7seater Van. At the Coburg airport Schumacher gave him a 100Euro bill...

Coburg is south east Germany not central... the older US guys which did a US Army tour in Europe/Germany most likely remeber the largest military training area in west europe called Grafenwhr.. Coburg is north west of that training area..

he did it in a SEVEN PASSENGER VAN!!!!!! that's completely nuts lol

I can't help but wonder what would happen if Schumacher got pulled over for driving like that. It would definitely be humorous.

lol i doubt the cop would want anything more than a picture and a signature from him lmao

lol
Cop: and that means what to me?
MS: Im a famos race car driver
Cop: oooh what car number are you on that Nascar race?
MS: bollocks!
In Europe, for sure. In the US, though, you never know. Now that could be hilarious.

"But...but...I'm Michael F'ing Schumacher..."

lol

Oh, I see. You're that asshole that ran Junior into the wall at Talladega, aren't you?
*Puts on rubber glove*
I'm going to have to ask you to get out of the car...

I hope Coburg doesn't have speed cameras!

Judge: Mr. Yilmaz, we have your taxi photographed at 60-90 MPH over the speed limit running through a string of 14 speed cameras over a stretch of 23 miles, what do you have to say in your defense?
Taxi Driver: I wasn't driving the taxi that night sir!
Judge: Oh? Then who was driving?
Taxi Driver: Michael Shumacher, sir.
Judge: How stupid do you think I am? GUILTY!!!

When news broke of Michael Schumacher's adventure behind the wheel of a taxi in Germany, most of us chuckled at the thought of the multiple-champion driver hustling a cab through the streets of Munich. German police were evidently not quite so amused, and have reportedly launched an investigation into the matter.

Both Schumacher and Tuncer Yilmax, the cabbie whose taxi Schumacher commandeered in exchange for fare plus a 100-Euro tip, are under investigation by the Coburg traffic authority for their respective involvement in the erstwhile-amusing affair.

"That was an offence against transport laws. We will have a hearing," said a local law enforcement official. Schumacher's response: "You just have to laugh about it". We'll go with Michael's approach, but keep you posted on what couldn't very well turn into the court-room drama of the year.

(lol). At least 7-passenger taxis in Germany are usually Manual Tranny and have very decent handling. Should have been fun to see him driving next to you at a traffic light... "Bas, Isn't that Michael Schumacher driving that freakin' taxi?" :D
