Hey yall, I've got an opportunity to go racing that I just can't pass up, and I need an SCCA racing license to do so. Plus I'll need one eventually anyways. I contacted the regional licensing representative, and here's what he told me:
Now, I've heard from several people that the directors can and will waive the second school if you've had a lot of experience on track and do very well in your first school. I'm an A-group student with Mazda Drivers, and an "Intermediate" or "Advanced" (or equivalent) student with most other clubs, and have around 6-7 schools under my belt (weeeeee!). Does anyone know how likely it would be for me to be able to waive the seconds school? I don't like spending money and waiting another year for a school I can get to (I definetly can't afford to fly out and do a 2-day school with one of the private ventures.) Thanks and hope to see some of yall at the track sometime soon

Toni Creighton said:You may apply for a SCCA Novice permit from SCCA in Topeka or from you local SCCA Region. The forms and instructions are located on the SCCA.com website, under club racing, forms. I do not issue novice permits.
SCCA school requirements are 2 SCCA schools with at least 6 hours of track time. There are also several professional schools that meet the requirements for schools. That list can be found in Fastrack located on SCCA.com under SCCA Garage.
At SCCA schools the Chief Steward will sign off on your satisfactory completion of schools. Once you have met the school requirements, you may race in 2 regional races on your novice permit as a license. When you have completed those requirements, you may apply for a regional license. After 4 more regional races successfully on the regional license, you may apply for a regional license.
All of the licensing information is found in the GCR - the General Competition Rules. You may purchase one from any region or order from SCCA. It is also online at SCCA.com
