Hey guys,
friend of mine is looking for a car around 25K range. He wants a 2 seater and something fun to drive. Right now hes got his eye on the sky. Just wanted to see what you guys have to say about it. From what I have seen, its a nice car thats pretty quick. I recommended the honda s2000 to him but he told me he would rather purchase a new car or something barely driven. Any comments on the sky or any other car around that same range would be much appreciated.

i drove a pontiac solstice...same car as the sky...i wasn't impressed at all...the miata is a better car, imo.

yeah, if i had 25K to drop on a 2 seater...i would try to find a used elise ...if i couldn't find one, i would go for the s2000.

the sky is more of a looker, if hes looking for performance I'd look at an S2K, Miata, or elise.

The sky redline may also be an option but it is most likely out of his price range.

The elise does look nice but he wants something with not too many miles on it. That elise on ebay already has almost 70k. Im not sure how reliable lotus' are.

S2000 vs Miata. s2000 nice car but miata seems like a much better bang for the buck. What you guys think?

the elise only has 26K miles...and iirc, the motors are supplied by toyota...someone please correct me if i'm wrong. with that, they should be extremely reliable.

the s2000 is like every other honda...no torque. they are nice looking cars...i would own one in a second...pm i_vtec...he has an s2000.

Yeah I saw a few s2000's vids on youtube. Drop a turbo in those things and a few mods and they can push 400 rwhp.

As for the lotus . . . 26k miles isnt bad and its a good price. I was just worried because i know lotus are english cars . . . enuff said. But if toyota makes their engines . . . very reassuring.

Sky Redline?

And yes, it is a tweaked Celica engine in the Elise and it is insanely awesome. S2000s are amazing too. But I do love Miatas. All of these would be good choices in my opinion. The Elise has the highest maintenance costs if you have any body damage and you cannot put anything in it. The S2K has a limited number of known issues, but they are fairly well-documented, same w/ the Miata. The Sky is a clone of the Solstice (but more attractive), but I don't know too much about the non-turbo ones.

I drove the pontiac solstice GTX turbo charged for a month (rental) and I thought it was bad ass.

I was going to say used Lotus Elise. :)

I would recommend that one up there in the link, that's a steal!

I guess I'll chime in here. I work for a Saturn dealer (and drive a Mazda and a Ford). I got to drive a Redline Sky 5speed last weekend and, somehow, still have a license. That car is a freakin BLAST to drive. I was 20 over the speed limit before I hit the end of the freeway ramp. From the driver's seat it almost looks and feels like a mini Corvette. I wanted to take it to an autocross, but figured I'd lose my job. LOL

HOWEVER....the car is an ergonomic nightmare! You have to reach for the seat belt with your right hand, the window switches are positioned right about where your wrist is when your elbow is as far back as it can go (try to touch the inside of your left wrist with your left ring-finger. Easy and comfy, huh??), a 12oz can, 20oz bottle, and my coffee cup were all too small for the cupholders (2 behind you, 1 that pops out where the passenger's left knee is) and flew out during shifts and turns. You also can't see a damn thing behind you with the top up or down, putting the top up is a PITA and, if you travel with the top down, there's enough luggage space for a pair of socks (perfect if you go to a nudist resort LOL).

Overall, the Sky would make a killer track or second car. I just don't think I could live with one on a daily basis and I've had Miatas as my only car for 10 years. The S2K isn't bad, but a little pricey. I think the best bet would be a new Miata or, better yet, a low mileage Mazdaspeed Miata!

Thanks for your input. My friend isnt married yet but hes going to be soon. I guess he realizes this is the last chance hes going to have for a 2 seater "fun car." Hes got an old 4 runner with 120K miles that hes keeping. As long as it looks nice and is fun to drive I think he will be ok with the annoying seat belt / cup holders. But yeah hes definately considering lightly used mazdaspeed miata or s2000. Not sure how he feels about that elise tho :).
