Samco hoses are here!

I spent many many hours flushing out all of the antifreeze, taking off the old hoses, installing the new ones, & filling the cooling system with distilled water & Water Wetter. The hoses look great & the clamps work so much better than the stock ones (no surprise). Be advised, it takes a lot of effort to get the hoses off & even more to get them back on. They are a very tight fit, but they DO go on & this just reassures me that there is no way they can leak. For the P5 owners, the small 3rd hose shouldn't be too hard to change, but it was VERY difficult for me. I took it off so that I could take pics showing the difference & also because I wanted to replace the stock clamps with the ones Forge sent (in order to stop my coolant leak). The hoses look great & I am very happy with this purchase.

*WARNING: These pics were left in high res to show Forge & Samco, so if you have 56K, don't even think of opening them.*

Here are the comparison pics of the MSP 3rd hose & the one for the NA Proteges from Samco.

These pics show the 3 clamps that I replaced on the 3rd hose. My coolant leak was coming from the top part of the hose & I think it was caused by the crappy stock clamps.

I know that someone mentioned that it might be necessary to trim the top hose in order to make it fit the MSP. The MSP's radiator is shorter, so the hose comes from the engine & then bends to the left instead of right like the P5. The good news is that the hose fits perfectly. No trimming is required & if you ever swap to a P5 radiator later on, all you have to do is rotate the hose 180 degrees.

As I mentioned, my installation was very time consuming. All together, I probably spent about 6 hours doing the coolant & hoses, but I always take longer than most people the first time & I stopped to take pictures, etc. For those of you who have yet to receive your hoses, if you have any ?s regarding the installation of the Samco hoses or changing your coolant (if you do this), feel free to ask me.

ENJOY your hoses! (2thumbs)

nice, so distilled wtaer and 1 bottle WW, how much distilled did you use with the WW, 1 gallon? more?

Notice anything better, other than no leakage, are your temps down at all from the new solution?

Including the filling of the overflow coolant resevoir, I used about 1.3 gallons of distilled water & the single bottle of Water Wetter. I hot flushed the coolant system twice (read drained it when the thermostat was open) & flushed it normally about 4 times. I followed the How-To from the service manual that LinuxRacr posted & his comments that went with it. In order to flush all of the antifreeze out, it's necessary to have the thermostat open. Conversely, in order to completely refill the cooling system, it's necessary to drive the car until the thermostat opens & then check the water level again. I didn't have the opportunity to open the radiator after finishing, but the overflow tank was still at full. Hopefully tomorrow I can drive it more & also observe the temp levels to see if I notice any change.

looks good dude :)

good luck with the leak problem. hope its solved

Just spoke with Forge, they have actually called me. They were pretty clear that the hoses are designed for the Protege5, NOT MSP. Since they nor Samco never claimed that they will fit MSP, they are NOT responsible for the the misunderstanding, nor will they do anything about it. I want this to be clear to everybody. Please do not call or email Forge about this since there is nothing they or Samco can do about this.

It was posted by azian6er that the hoses would fit the MSP. I should have researched this some more and I appologize for any inconvinience this has caused. But again, neither Forge nor Samco are responsible so please do not complain to or blame them.

The MSP owners will have to do away with 2 hoses. But in my opinion:
1) The small hose on the MSP is not visible anyway...
2) According to Majik, the leak if you have it, is fixed by new clamps

Let me hear any complaints, suggestions, problems.

I think you mean make due. lol.

Anyhow, no problems as far I'm concerned. We MSP owners have gotten used to very little aftermarket support and many times having to use products from the P5.

As you said, both of the main hoses fit and we'll be able to use the new clamps on the old hose too.

Yes, but you have to remove that small hose to get the old clamps off & doing that (AND getting it back on) is a major PITA.

Yeah, I'll probably wait on that until I swap out for a P5 radiator which I am sure in itself will be a major PITA.

lol, i guess you are right. damn us stupid foreigners.

i am sorry that they do not fit 100% but it was stated that they are a direct replacement for the P5 and not the MSP so I hope there are no hard feelings.
And especially there should not be anybody calling Forge and complaining. It appears the kits come sealed just the way Samco packages them so there should not be a problem with missing hoses.

George said they do not do group buys because stuff can go wrong so we should be especially happy and thankful that they did this favor for us. (2thumbs)

If there is no "Forge Motorsport" thread under the "Vendor Review" section maybe somebody or I will start one so we can put the praises in one area for everybody to see.
