RX-8 wheel/tire combo?

Uh, have you looked at the treadwear rating of the stock RE050As?

140

I know that you can't necessarily compare treadwear ratings across different manufacturers, but that's still a low number for an OEM tire...

I will be using these for both DD duty and AutoX/track days until they are gone, and then I will move on to the next set of tires. :)

exactly.. I'd rather have a GREAT tire with a low treadwear and have to replace them after 8-10K mile than have an average tire on the car for 20-30K miles.

Love my Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 StarSpecs

will the stock oem potenzas fit on rx8 wheels? i thought the rx8 and ms3 stock were the same size? why are ppl suggesting to roll the fenders?

Yes, the optional RX-8 wheels are 18x8, and yes, many people are running the stock 215/45-18 Potenzas on them. Since an 8" width is the max size for the stock tires, they will look a little stretched and offer no rim protection. And no, you don't need to roll your fenders.

Should I stay away from RX-8 replica wheels? I would like to get some come spring but I am having a tough time finding OEM.

Speaking from what I've seen of replica wheels at work, the casting quality can be hit or miss - some have been fine, others have been poorly cast (Weak spots and/or needing an excessive amount of weight to balance).

Ebay usually has OEMs for sale, and sometimes even craigslist has them.

I had rubbing bad with 225/45/18 lowered on roadmagnet springs. I took the rx8 rims off and plan on selling them just been lazy

What drop are those springs? I'm on RPM Street springs and I would go wider than 225 if I didn't think they would rub.

so what is the probability of rubbing with cobb springs with rx8;s and 235.40.18;s

This was my original question and it seems nobody on here knows for sure. I'm most likely just going to stick with 225/40's just to be safe. Plus they are much cheaper.

Not really, 225/40 and 235/40 are usually only $10-$15 difference...

The issues with the Cobb springs is that they lower the car too much. But the RX-8 wheels are 50ETs, so they are the closest thing to stock wheel backspacing. I think it would be OK, but I don't really know how firm those Cobb springs are. I would imagine 235/40 would be fine.

What tires/wheels do you have now with your Cobb springs?

I'm on stock wheels and tires right now. I would love to have the 235/40's if they work. I don't know how stiff the springs are either because I bought the car with them already installed. I didn't have the stock ride to compare them to.

Well, I picked up some cheap new tires from someone on Craigslist. I don't even know what brand they are. They just say Sport IV on them. They look pretty nice, but they are Korean. They're 235/40's so I guess I'll be finding out if they fit without rubbing soon.
