RX-8 Shinka edition for my gf

Thanks for all the input.

Her main concerns about the rx-8 right now is:

1) routine oil checkup (I just don't see her taking off the engine cover and looking at the oil lvl)

2) WINTER driving, she's not the most talented driver and even with snow tires, I'm not sure it's going to be easy...

Seems like it might not be worth it for her...

And whoever suggested to get an accord coupe should be shot in the knees!!! :)
She's looking into getting a TSX, I think it would be a lot more practical...

but also, has she checked out the Subaru Legacy GT yet? the 250hp turbo awd hotness is a lot of fun, not to mention excellent winter weather traction (naughty)

Dude, I'm a female and I have an RX8. I chose this car for several reasons. First of all, it's completely impossible to roll this puppy over. Secondly, yes, you have to go for routine oil changes, but so..does..everyone else. If you're the type of person to constantly check the oil, I'm sure you won't have a problem working on an RX8. ;) Third of all, despite it's small size, I never have any problems fitting three 6 foot guys in the car with me...and they might even be comfortable. The trunk is large. Fourth of all, I live in Florida and do not ever have to deal with snow, but I'm sure this would be as safe a car as any to drive because of all the safety features (tire inflation warning light, TCS and DSC.) An RX8 is a great car and I highly recommend it to her. If you haven't yet, take her to test drive one, and that will be the end of story. :)

How can you say the shot in the knees comment when the the TSX IS a Honda Accord. Well not the coupe version and its in Europe, but still.

Yep, the TSX is just the Euro Accord.

TSX = Honda accord. The N.A. Accord is in a way what a mercury is vs. a Ford.

And btw. Why did a lot of engines and cats have to be replaced, what was the reason?

You said it TSX = EURO accord.
If I want boring styling, I'd get an AMERICAN accord. It's a boat for %$^ sake!

Legacy GT is not a bad idea. Subies are not the most classy though....

Thumbs up for the TSX for practicality, but if she wants something sporty that's more similar to an RX-8, what about RSX?

No heated seats in an RSX, therefore out of the question! Personnaly, I'd get an RSX Type-S in a heartbeat.

RX-8 update: she's really unsure about winter driving, and I haven't found anything to change her mind yet...

I would contemplate suicide over heated seats, they are a must for me for the cold mornings.

She looked it at on the web. Doesn't like it, looks boring.... (don't blame me for trying)

I grew up in NJ and if you admit that she is not a talented driver DO NOT let her get a Rear Wheel Drive car unless you have a Big life insurance policy on her. An experienced RWDer is a different story but still takes a very controlling and patient driver.

yea that's true, the legacy does have somewhat of a *boring* profile.... looks like any other 4 door sedan... heh

have you talked to her about winter driving in the 8, and how pretty much she will need an extra set of winter tires if she even attempts to go out in bad wintry weather?

the stock summer tires are useless in winter!!!!1
