Can anyone tell me where your tapping in under hood for the rpm signal when dyno'ing?

Tks,

i havent really looked but there should just be a wire going to the DIS for the pickup

If your dyno operator doesn't know how to do this, you need another one (operator).

OKAY. I'm asking for my own knowledge, not because some "dyno" operator does not know. I like to know as much as I can about my car before modifying it. On my MkV GTI there was a thicker red wire in the harness leading to the coil on plug(s) which was used for this signal.

So, many people have dyno'd but nobody knows the answer?

Sarcasm really isn't helping, it just shows YOU dont know either.

Check The Schematica On The Rpm Gauge Or So. Cause It Has To Use One Of The Signals! There Might Be A Signal Wire!

Ok. Assuming you have a late model 3, there is no distributor and no spark plug wires. The spark plugs have coils integrated into the plug caps. There are two wires going to each coil. You have to tap into one of those wires to pick up the RPM signal. The setting should be for 1 cylinder since it will fire only once for every two revolutions.

The tachometer (RPM Gauge) is integrated with the ECM and does not have a distinct RPM signal.

I hope this is more helpful. Sorry for my sarcasm.

COP = Coil On Plug.. Pick a colored stripped wire. You will need a converter if you plan to connect an additional TACH to this lead.. These work only with the pickup used for dyno's and monitoring software.

You can also tap the wire coming into the RPM gauge on the instrument panel. Thats a clean signal and will work with a external tach. I hope that helps.
