Hi,
Need some advice here. I have a 2000 1.6L ULEV Protege DX Auto with 170,000. I just replaced the head gasket myself (had the head machined), including the timing belt, water pump, random seals and gaskets, spark plugs, oil and filter and the like. A week after, the transmission blew (for the second time). Replaced that too (well mechanic did this one) with a used low mile trans.
The problem is, after all that, I still have a rough idle when the car is in gear. It seems to idle fine and be happy while in park, but at a light or something, well, it's just rough. I know it's an old car with a million miles, but I think it should be running smoother. Any ideas?
I have an engine light on, but according to AutoZone it's an EGR related issue. I cleaned the EGR (for the second time) but it still codes. Could the rough idle be related to the EGR?
I checked vacuum lines and connections and everything is hooked back up in its proper locale. In one of the EGR valve rubber line connections, there appears to be a small sort of slice in the hose, but it doesn't look like it goes all the way through.
So, are these separate issues? Is there a cheaper EGR available than $250?
Thanks for any help you can swing my way.
Cheers
