Rolling your own .. fenders that is

Does any one have any tips/experience with rolling their fenders? I have some snow tires and wheels that rub in the rear lip a bit.

I can take a body work hammer and tap tap, but the Mazda steel seems pretty hard, like high strength, so it doesn't seem so flexible. Any *experienced* comments appreciated.

Heat gun will be your friend as well with some heavy leather gloves. How much do they rub?

when I rolled the fenders on my 07 RX8, I simply used a heat gun to heat then inside of the fender, and then used a baseball bat. I rolled the bat along the fender, using the tire as a point to push against. Turned out great. You need to heat the fender to keep the paint from cracking.

We're talking about heating the metal lip area? I had heard of the baseball bat trick but thought it would spring the whole fender, which, I guess would be OK as long it looks good and clean. Thanks for the replies so far!

Practice on a couple of junkyard cars first. Don't tear up your fenders without knowing what your doing.

Thanks everyone for this very useful info. Great links too! I'm much more comfortable doing this now. I think I'll use the baseball bat method just because the diameter varies on it. Maybe this should go into the how to section?

find a local person with a fender roller and pay them to do it, or see if any local shops have one and pay to have it done right.

Just my $.02
