Rock Chip - treatable

Hurrah! Anchorman's attachment system is back and working!

Interestingly, when I had my windscreen replaced one dealer said the sensor needed recalibrating and another didn't. (Although, this WAS Sandicliffe... a well known UK dealer network). I didn't bother and it still works. I found out the other day.(eek2)

Rock chip...pfft I wish I had that instead when I had to replace my windshield due to a huge cracked and now, not even a month after replacing it and boom another 2 dotted rock chip on my windshield (near center of driver side). I can see some white damage and rough surface when you run your finger on top of it. It got hit on the highway running more than 100km/h but it looks like sturdier than the previous windshield. This time I saw that huge rock flying towards at me and it was louder than the previous hit that cracked my windshield before running under 70km/h where you can barely see the rock.

For now, I just ignore it because it just gets to my nerve and if my windshield cracks again... I might put a damn windshield protector. However, I don't disagree that the car is well built but damn cursed windshield... really damn ...

FYI, I stay back as a far as I can 99% of the time. The usual distance of the car in front of me is about 5 cars length or further especially on the highway. I am just lucky to get the unlucky rock hit with that 1% chance.

Two comments: First, I would not ignore these kinds of rock chips, but rather take it to a glass shop and have them repaired. Otherwise, they're liable to morph into cracks the next time you hit a pothole or something and "shock" the front end of the car. And second, I have learned that maintaining an oversized following distance from traffic ahead is no guarantee of avoiding this type of damage. A month or so ago I was driving north from LA on Hwy 5 in California and there were no other cars to be seen in the northbound lanes. Then, out of the blue, I got hit with a rock thrown up by a vehicle going the opposite direction in one of the southbound lanes. Sometimes you just can't win!

I know the feeling. Same thing happened to me twice.

Diys

Hello!

I have a 17 GT. While putting Aquapel on the windshield today, I noticed a rock (Im guessing nick - its about the size of a toothpick head). I can feel it when I rub my finger over it, but Im not sure that its repairable at the current size? It is on the passenger side.

Why do these windshields crack so often? My fear is that if it ever got to the point of breaking, replacing it leaves glass pieces that can scratch my paint and leather interior. Has anyone had this issue.

So, is this repairable, or should I just leave it for now?

Thanks!
You can fix this yourself. Go to your local auto parts store. Get a windshield repair kit. It should have a syringe type device. There should be a link on the package for a YouTube video. If not, go to YouTube and look for a video that shows you how to fix. Its not that hard
