Rims are spray painted black..how to remove?

So I just bought a used M3 and the previous owner spray painted the alloy rims over. It's starting to peel and looks like ass, is their any solvents I can use to remove the paint without damaging the clear coat underneath?

*edit* It's actually a regular M3

brake cleaner will get it off without damaging much

looks like he used bad spray paint so yea, brake cleaner, a rag, and some elbow grease and it should come off fairly easy

Odds are high they scuffed the clear coat underneath so their "spray bomb" would stick better. Just strip to metal and paint or powdercoat as you wish.

wow, too bad the previous owner did such a horrible job of painting those rims.
what a waste...

my boss has been talkin about a raise for me for just as long... I found my set, and almost pulled the trigger this weekend... other expenses seem to find their way to my account.

start with something rougher.. I'd go with nothing lower than 100, and work your way up until you're satisfied with the surface prep and that it won't show through your new paint. once you have a good portion of the paint knocked down, you may want to try using red/gold/green scuffing pads for the tighter areas... but a stripper/brake clean will take a lot of elbow grease out of the equation...

What a day..spent hours prepping the first wheel. Been using super strength paint stripper from ace hardware to loosen the paint, followed by 150 grit..Will post pictures later.

yup, i refinished/painted my racing harts. it's a lot of labor... but if you take the time to do it right you can get some nice results.
