Rim/Tire size questions

Ok so ide like to think I know quite alot about cars, but honestly when it comes to rims/tires I dont have a clue.(shrug)

So I was thinking of getting a 17' wheel for my MS3 for less weight and better performance on the drag strip and autoX.

Now im guessing the widest possible will be better right?

THere are some Advan Rims I like the look of and will email them for weight but I think they are light so thats key. Does anyone have anything bad to say about them?

Ok so is it ok to go 17x9.5? If so then what tire would be good, would 285 40 17 be ok, they are only 1.4% off from stock.

If not then 17x8.5? What tire size for these? And what offset and bolt patter is needed?


Lastly if you think there are reasonably priced (under 1400) 18'' rims that are really light weight and look good speak up and I will definately consider them. But then again I need to know what tire size/offset bolt pattern...

moved to ms3 section... i would think 17x9.5 are probably out. i am curious as to why you think 17's are better then 18s? if its just weight you can find some pretty light 18s and don't forget tire weight in your quest either they can come in anywhere from 20-26lbs depending on size and style
