ReWiring door speakers - need help!!

I'm soon to install a set of Infinity Reference 605cs components pushed by a Rockford Fosgate amp.

I really feel the need to run new speaker wire to the front doors once I start installing everything (I'm only amping the fronts). I want my Infinitys to sound as good as possible, and the bad stock wires just ain't gonna cut it.

So - are there any moderately easy ways to do this thru the stock wiring boot? I really would like to avoid taking the doors off of the car, and I'm also trying not to drill any new holes in the sheet metal for the wires.

I know some of you have done this - let me learn from your experiences. I'm going to run 16 gauge wire.

If I absolutely have to drill the sheet metal, I will - but through the stock boot is my first choice, of course.

Thanks!

So you're gonna run like 1000 watts to the fronts? Believe me, you're in for the biggest headache of your life, and you won't gain a thing for it. The molex plugs going to the door make it a very large PITA to get wires in there. "Those bad stock wires" will do just fine, believe me. But, if you're into self-torture, then......

1000 watts? Uh...I hope that was a joke....

I'm only running 75 RMS per side - so about 150 RMS total.

Are you SURE those wires are okay? They are ridiculously thin, and I'd hate to lose potential SQ and power only because of the wires. These things can make a big difference, as I'm sure you know.

Did you TRY to get wires in there? Any luck getting at any of the connectors?

Those wires are very thin but you really cant beat OEM wiring in most cases. Aftermarket wires unless you buy top grade stuff, are generally thicker but sometimes have less strans of copper wire. OEM wires are less flimesy and have a crap load of copper strans. It is not always the size around that matters, but the more strans the more current it can carry. The electricity travels around the outside of the wires, more wires, more electricty.

For door speakers these should be more than enough.

But if you insist, then you must remove the door panels. it would make no sence to run all new wires when you stop at the door and splice into the factory wire there. Just like car exhaust, its only as good as the weakest link.

oh yeah on that note take a look at your speakers. They will have two wires about the size of your factory wires running to the magnets. If you think the factory wires are too small and want to change them, than you might as well start tearing apart your new speakers too.

Just my opinion.

Their is an area of the molex that can be drilled out to put a 16 guage wire through it, their are three pins that aren't used that can be used. You don't need to take off the door but it is a b****.

You dont have to take the doors off, I took a drill bit and drilled into the wiring harness all the way through, If you look there are wires that come from the inside of the car to the harness. But if you look on the otherside of the harness where it goes into the door there are is a set that doesnt go in to the door. DONT QUOTE ME but i believe that it is a purple wire. Just look and you will see. Also I would run new wire so you can just hook your factory's back up when you sell the car.:)

Well, just to keep things current - I DID get a Dremel bit through the connector - but once I realized I drilled into a wire, (and when I tried using a coathanger to thread the new speaker wire, my door locks actuated themselves), I stopped.

Everything still works - no shorts, no problems. I could have done it, but decided that it wasn't worth the trouble - I've heard from too many people on this board and others who know more than me, telling me that the SQ difference will not even be audible.

I'm probably starting the final phase of my modest install tomorrow - all my wires are run, and I just got my components and sub today - pix to come!

dude stock wires are run in the best possible way to avoid noise!!! i fyou run new wire to power another pair of speakers you are crazy!!! i am runing MB quartz with competition rockford amps not thew best buy crap and i used the stock wire!!! save your $$$ and use all the stock wire you can!!!!
