i was just wondering the other day what is the rev limiter and speed limiter set at in the 2.3l engine? i've taken it to 7k rpm with nothing happening (i don't do it often) and i've never really broken 85mph. anyone know what those are set at?

i believe the rev limiter is 7200? or around there... and the speed govnr is around 117... not that i know or anything....

i got my car up to 181Km/h and i was still going

but the cars in front of me where coming fast

if it wasnt for the speed limiter then it would definately go faster. it cuts out at like 118 and its exactly 5k RPMs so figure u have another 2k rpms till ur actually topped out. i wonder what that would make the real top speed of our cars?? if anyones good with numbers it could probably be found out but dont look at me.... (no)

All i know is that 85mph is just to low for a personal speed record...You have to make it a point to at least hit triple digits...lol

As for the limiter I havent taken it past the redline b/c of precaution, but I'll also attest to the top speed being around the 117 mark...and I agree it still had almost 2500rpm left...so it couldve easily gone up to around the 130 area...thinking about this now, 130mph for an almost stock 4cyl is pretty tight...I'm guessing the Evo's do more than that, but I'm proud of my "could be" 130

according to road and track, the evo mr (most expensive model with the 6-spd), can only hit 112 because of a speed limiter.... and they hit that in 4th with 2 more gears left. as for 85 being my top, i just lucked out in court and got out of a speeding ticket for 68 in a 45 zone. would have been 2 points on my license if i hadn't gotten out of it. the judge already told me i won't get another break so i can't speed anymore.

played around with my Ti-83+ and some old stats and calculus porgrams and i think my best guss is around 130MPH as an acttual top speed, but I could be very wrong

Maybe newer cars have lower governors. 112 is low for the evo. I do know that most mid-full size luxury cars (Lexus GS, BMW 5-series, Infiniti Q45, etc.) can hit somewhere between 140-150, at the limiter, but they're capable of going faster.

yeah no thanks. i'd like my heart to continue beating in my chest and my head to remain connected to my body.

On that note, has anybody seen the "Tazer Time" video?

Funny s***...

FYI
Based on 5000 rpm being equal to 118 mph in 5th gear. The actual speed at 7200 RPM's in fifth gear would be exactly 169.92 mph. (with stock sized wheels/tires).

Whether or not we have enough power to actually get to 7200 rpm in 5th is another question.
