I know this has probably already been brought up or said before, but i think that the reputation point system could actually become a great tool if there were are few minor changes.
I think that we should be able to see what other people have recieved positive and regative for. Almost like Ebays feedback system.... For example, if i want to buy something from Joe from the FS forum. He has 5 or 6 little green boxes, so he must be pretty reputable. I then click on his Joes username and vew his public profile. There, it tells me what he has recieved + rep points for, and who they came from. I can now see that Joe got all of his reputation points by posting half naked girls in the Off-topic session, and has not made any transactions on the forum. This would help people from getting scammed in the FS, and help out al around.
Now i have a question about points in general. It looks as if i have 3 people leave me positive reputation points, but i have over 1100 points. Where does this number come from? How did i aquire so many points? How was this number generated? I remember reading somewhere that each time someone adds to your reputation, you recieve 3 points. I think that the point system should be changed aswell. For off-topic or dyno sheets or general threads ect, I think 1 point would be enough. The only areas where more points would be necessary would be in the FS or How-To threads. People that take the time to write detailed How-To's deserve to be rewarded, maybe 10 points instead. If someone in the FS thread leaves you + rep points for a smooth transaction, why not make it 5. But for everything else, i would just keep it at 1.
I think that the rep points should also be beneficial if there were moderation of rep points given, or regulation of rep points. People should not be able to create a thread stating that they need rep points, so please donate generously. like now people should not be able to leave + rep points 25 times in a row for the same person.
I know a lot of people feel as if reputation points are a joke, but i think that it could become a useful part of the forums if implemented correctly.
