Reprogramming my Mazda3 Keys

Hi everyone,

I have three Mazda keys, one jack-knife style and two regular keys. One of my regular keys was stolen which left me with two keys now. I was reading the related posts in this forum and found out the procedure to reprogram my keys and realize I still can reporgram my remaining two keys. However, I still have few doubts:

1) Tt seems like the method of programming the keys does not apply to jack-knife keys for 2007 Mazda 3 ?

2) Once I have reprogrammed my keys, my stolen key will not be able to turn on the engine but it can still open the doors?

Can someone please answer my inquiry?

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

The first question is it probably won't work. Yes, the stolen key will still be able to open your doors. In order for you to make it not start the engine, you have to get the dealer to erase the codes in your ECU and then re-program the keys you have. If you follow the procedure, it will add keys, but the previous ones will still be active.

You should be able to get the key to work, but without getting the stolen key cleared from the immobilization system it will still be able to start the car.

but theres 2 separate steps to getting the keys to work, 1 program the key to the immobilization system, then program the key fobs (transmitters) to the keyless entry system. By reprogramming new transmitters to the keyless entry system, you have to do all the transmitters at the same time or if they are left out, they wont work. So you can eliminate the transmitter that was stolen from the system, but still won't really stop the thief because he can still put the key in the door.

Best thing would be go to the dealer, clear all the key codes from the immobilization system (can't do it without that big laptop thing the dealer has, the "M-MDS") reprogram the new keys and key fobs.

They'll be able to get in but not start the car, so for a while, don't keep important things in the car.

The other option would be new keys, ignition cylinder, and door lock cylinders, which would be big bucks.

Actually whenever you program in new remotes or new keys you must reprogram in any existing ones if you want them to continue to work, otherwise the transponder code is removed from the system. You do not have to go to the dealer and have them clear the codes out of the computer. If you go back through the programming cycle with your two existing keys then the stolen key will no longer start the car as it wasn't programmed back in.

As far as opening the car like you said it will still open the doors, and really the only way around that is to spend a bunch of money replacing the lock cylinders on the door/ignition (and trunk if you have a sedan).

Just to clarify, are both of your other two keys (standard and flip) already programmed into the car? If not then the dealer will have to program a second key for you. Also did you lose a remote too, or just the key?
