Replacing The Blind Spot Monitoring Radars

The other day my car was the victim of a hit and run on the rear bumper which damaged the left radar sensor and caved in the bumper on that side. I took it in to my local dealer and was told that they would have to replace the bumper and that Mazda had changed the radar models and so I would have to replace both the left and right side radars as well. Total damage is a little over $2000. Has anyone else had this job done and if so how much were you charged?

I was rear-ended back in the middle of July and just got my sGT hatch back today. My damage was to the rear bumper and rear passenger side quarter panel. BSM sensor was also damaged (well, the harness that holds it). Body shop ordered a new sensor, but Mazda told the shop the BSM sensor has been recalled (purchased my car Oct '13). New ones are expected to start shipping out in beginning to mid-September. Luckily, since only my harness was damaged, my sensor is still operational and they were able to get my car put back together. Once the new part comes in, the shop will do a swap.

In my case, the damage to the rear bumper wasn't awful and looks like it was reconstructed/refinished per the notes (notes say "Replace Rear Bumper Recon"). Cost for that was $238 + ~$120 for paint/finish.

1x blind spot monitor system module was $629.30 + $28 for labor. Shop I took it to said it was a very easy install - unclip a few clips that hold the bumper in place, slide bumper our, swap sensor, slide bumper back in.

I did not take my car to the dealer. Mazda dealer in my area uses a big factory-style autobody shop for every make and model of vehicle the chain sells. Felt much more comfortable taking it to an independent, well-reviewed shop. Get a second opinion. All considered, the $2,000 estimate doesn't seem too wild depending on the extent of your damage. I'll try to find out tomorrow if my bumper was replaced or refinished. I requested only genuine Mazda parts be used, and will be slightly peeved if they refinished my bumper instead of replacing.

The dealer told me the same thing. They were unable to work on my car because they couldn't get the parts including the bumper so I'll be riding around with the BSM Off light flashing for the next two or three weeks. The dealer quoted me $500 for the replacement bumper but the way that the bumper was damaged I'm pretty sure the sensor was damaged.
