Replacing silver interior decorative trim on door handle

So it's only been a few months and my son has managed to scuff the silver door trim that runs horizontally across the CX-9's door. It's actually scuffed down to the substrate in some areas. I called my parts guys and the trim is about $45 to replace. It looks to me that Mazda may have thought ahead and made it easy to snap off the trim without having to remove the entire door panel. Can anyone confirm this? I'm not going to replace it now but just want to get an idea of how much work it owuld be to do it down the road. Knowing it was easy would make me less OCD about it with my kids. (no)

Hi Antonio. There was a TSB on this for the 2009s. I think this has some instructions on how to remove the trim. You might want to see if the dealer will consider fixing your 2010 as part of this TSB... http://www.finishlineperformance.com/pdf/cx-9/bulletin/09-033-08-1993.pdf

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you. Looks like a very simple job. Makes me feel better, now I don't need to worry.

I could try to have it replaced but chances are the manufacturing change was done in 2009 and the 2010 had the newer ones.

Thanks again.

Not sure if the '09 or '10 have different door trim, but i had my 08 GT door trim and center console trim replaced under warranty.

No questions when I carried in a copy the TSB.

Not a chance to replace '10 silver trims for free, I guess.

They have the new ones from factory.
Our '08 and some '09 have older ones, which lacked an extra coating to make the more scratch-resistant.
The old ones were so bad that you could easily scratch off the paints with you fingernails....

You can buy new trim pieces for 50 each, and they will last a couple years, or take the pieces to a good local body shop, have them refinish the trim pieces, they will apply a high quality matte clear coat over the new painted surface, that will be a much higher caliber clear than was provided from the factory and last a much longer time. will run you between 100 to 150 bucks.

100 to 150 for both front door drim pieces. .3 to remove and install each trim piece, .5 refinish + clear cloat + paint/materials, don't know what it would be for all 4 doors, or all 4 doors and center console silver trim.
