Removal of Rear View Mirror?

Does anybody know how to remove the rear view mirror in my 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 Sport? It is just the plain mirror without compass or auto-dimming features. I am trying to remove it because I want the people who tinted my visor strip to retint it because it doesn't look very good and I want to get it out of the way temporarily.

There is a block glued to the windshield and the mirror slides over it. There is a metric allen locking screw that has to be loosened and then pull the base up and back.

Same question for the GT with the auto-dimmer and auto-wiper for pretty much the same reason. I'm tired of being blinded on the morning commute and have decided that a tint strip would be very helpful. I just want it done right the first time.

Same answer, except you have to disconnect the wire too.

i love using the search feature and finding something rather then starting another duplicate thread. :D

ok after going back outside.. im back inside.. what size allen key is this its driving me crazy, why would you use an allen key in a spot where you can see it!

for future reference... mine did not have an allen key it was just a simple tab that you needed to pry with a very small screw driver

Mine also did not have an allen key (nor did my father's 5 when I installed his auto dim mirror). There was a little slot at the base of mirror mount right against the glass. You had to stick a small screwdriver into the slot and push up towards the top of the car to pop a spring clip loose. Then the mirror just slid up off the mount on the windshield. It helps to have a small wide flat head vs. an eyeglass screwdriver.
