Remote Turn On Wire?

Hi,
So, I'm almost done with getting my amp setup on my own, and my friedn who's been helping me (who's done all this before he says) says I don't need to use a remote turn on wire (he didn't know what one was0, so when we tried to turn it on, obviously the amp didn't turn on.

My question: My remote turn on wire that came with my lightning audio 4awg amp kit looks like regular speaker wire, and is abut the same thickness...this is remote turn on wire, right? And also, I wire this wire to pin #10 on the stock radio harness (I don't wanna use the ignition wire since I only want the amp on when the radio is turned on), right?

i dunno about pin #10... but yes its just a very thin wire (usually like 18 gauge or higher)

yes its the remote turn on wire. is it blue?

My remote turn on wire..is actually on my rca cables...and yes it connected to the back of the radio..not sure which one..but i am sure someone will chime in w/ that info soon!

And you must have a remote wire connected otherwize the amp will not turn on!

You might want to read-up on amp installs and such yourself a bit, and re-check everything your friend did. It's pretty rediculous to not have a turn-on-lead.

As for the connection, pin#10 (pink/black I believe, but TEST IT FIRST) for a factory stereo is not really a true switched lead like many aftermarket decks have to control amps. It simply comes on when ignition is set to "on" or "acc" With a factory deck there's no way of wiring it where an amp will turn off if the deck's off, but car's on. So really, it doens't matter all thatmuch. if you don't want to dig back in your dash again, you could connect to your cig lighter or wherever you can find a wire that shows coltage when "on" and none when off (you should ALWAYS ALWAYS test before you go splicing into things and making connections, though. As far as the size of the wire, yea it's tiny, doesn't really carry alot of current, simply sends a bit to trip a switch...

I'd also be inclined to ask how you guys connected your input to the amp. Does the Amp have speaker level inputs, or did you use a line-out converter to get RCA jacks? Because this will really help. I'd also assume that you've got a 03.5 that has a spare-tire sub, right? If you're adding a sub, you should try to turn that off, or at least dial it down as far as it will go (multiple subs that aren't the same tend to sometiems cancel eachother out a bit)

Thanks for all the help! Yeah, my remote turn on wire is blue and it sounds like you described. I'm gonna try to use pin #10 later today hen I install it. I hooked up my amp with a line out converter, and I grounded it by the spare tire.
