Remote Starter Issue

Hi all. Having a major issue with my Remote Starter, and wondering if anyone had any ideas for me to look at.. Basically, I have a 2005 Mazda 6s (Auto) and got a remote start installed at a 3rd-party shop, with the CompuStar 1WAMR-G2 remote. I had this installed at the beginning of '05. All has worked pretty well since. However, just recently, I have been having a major issue.. I started my car from my office one day, and jumped in the car.. Went shopping. Leaving the store, I hit the start again, and it started, idled very high, and then killed the engine. Tried again, with the same results. Since then, I cannot use my remote starter to start the car, the same starting and stopping tries 4 times, and then stops trying. The shop that installed this is unfortunately no longer in business, so I'm on my own here.

I've done some research, and there is no Hood Pin for this starter, so a loose or stuck hood pin isn't the issue. I have read something about a tach wire, that knows when the engine is started. Or if it is Voltage Sensing, perhaps the cold could be throwing it off. Another interesting behavior, which kinda scares me, and not sure if it's related. But basically, at one point I trie to remote start, and it starts and then stops as usual. After the first try, I put my key in started the car.. All of a sudden, the remote start tried to fire off the 2nd attempt and the horrible grinding sound of the starter ensued. I needed to hold down the remote start button again to stop it. Shouldn't there be some type of anti-grind feature? That won't start the car if it's running? Maybe this has to do with the tach wire/voltage sensing issue, not thinking the car is running?

Sorry for the novel, but any information would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, I figured this out, in case anyone has a similar issue.. It was the tach wire that was causing this issue... I opened up my hood and checked by the firewall for a wire popping through.. Finally found one that went to my engine. Basically, when they installed this, they ran it along another tube going to the engine. There was a metal clamp on this tube, and that severed the tach wire. So the starter never actually knew when the car was running, and therefore didn't work.. I reconnected the wires, and now my starter is working as it should!

I'm always late on the draw on seeing these posts. That's almost always the issue. If the car tried to run and then dies it's always one of two things with RS systems. 1) Tach issue, or 2) Bypass issue. Some cars it wont even crank if it's a bypass issue. Good Job on finding it yourself.
