Relocated Liscense Plate Pics

Here are some pics of my relocated front liscense plate. I ordered the bracket from T and A Performance (www.tandaperformance.com) for about $30 shipped. Since I live in MA, a front plate is required since I was given two plates. I think this looks much better than how it did before. I plugged up my two holes by following the how to for plugging the holes in the how to section of the forum.
Installation of the bracket sounded difficult when I read the instructions it came with, and said I had to drill (and I dont like drilling into my car...I haven't to this day and don't plan to). I ended up removing the two center screws that hold the black plastic piece that sticks out under the front bumper, and installing the bracket with those holes and the original screws. To do this I just had to drill one hole a little to the left of one of the holes that already existed on the bracket. I also painted the bracket laser blue with spraypaint from paintscratch.com.....but you can't see the bracket really anyways unless you're right up close (since your liscense plate is bigger than the bracket), so painting was pretty much a waste.

Enjoy!

Plate looks good.

Dig the protege badge, too. ;)
Haha thanks. I'm really glad you mentioned you had one for sale at the nepoc meet. Nice how things kinda work out like that!

I knew I shouldn't have drilled out the bumper!

I ran minus the front plate for over two years and one week got a ticket while parked in NYC and another the same week at 5am parked in front of my house. I finally drilled out the damn holes (and paid the NYC ticket for $120 -- got the local one dropped).

My favorite moment while NOT using the front plate: Months after the s*** at the WTC, I had to drive into the City and that afternoon while leaving via the Mid-Town tunnel, was directed to the curb by a couple of bad-ass guardsman. The NY cop waiting there looked at my license/reg for a moment and then smiled and asked how I liked the MP3 "Nice car, I've been reading about them...". He handed back my paperwork and sent me on my way with "take good care of that one!"

personally, id move it off to the side a little bit....just to add something unique...but good job nonetheless

I saw one of those kit from ebay for $15.
yea they come and go on ebay. This company had one on ebay for $24.99 plus shipping, but they're a little cheaper if you order them right from their website. You could also probably just go to home depot and make one for about $5, but I'd rather pay for quality and not have to design one. This thing is a very strong bracket. I still haven't seen a p5 with an offset liscense plate, but I could move it to the side with this brakcet if I wanted to. Maybe this weekend I'll play around with it and try some other locations, but I do like the way it looks like this. I think I'll need to mount it differently when my dgm urethane lip goes on after the winter.

do you have to drill holes under the bumper/

The directions say you have to, but as I said above, I just measured how far apart the screws holding the black plastic piece that hangs down were, and I had to drill one hole in the bracket I ordered, since the two of the 4 original holes were too far apart. I just used two screws and holes that were already on the bumper protector to mount it. I also sanded part of the little plastic piece that hangs down so that the screws I already had would fit...you'll see what I mean if you try this (this was very easy to do). Overall, the install took about 30 mins considering I tried to make it fit without drilling the bracket first, then my drill wasn't co-operating, but it's really a simple install. You don't have to drill your bumper like the directions say; but if you don't, you'll probably just need to drill one hole in the bracket.

For you it might be a good idea to mount it off to the side. I'm sure it could be done with this bracket...especially if you dont mind drilling into the bottom of your bumper. Or it might be easier just to make one with supplies from home depot or something to mount it off to the side. I think I remember seeing someone's plate mounted off to the side somewhere...not sure where the pic is though.

ya...i'm thinkin of off to the side and in the middle of the lower plastic so that it sits about half way??

I rock the zip ties in the lower grill! Yeah! Getto Fab! I dont have holes in my (replacement) bumper and dont want them. I'll do something eventually.

Looks great, I have the same bracket. but now I have a DGMotorsports front lip and need to see if I can modify it to fit.

I'm running no front tag on the '5 and the Gestapo hasn't gotten me yet. I do, however, have one ready to go in a resized half-round stain blcak plastic frame.

I cut 1/2"+ from the tag all the way around. Just the numbers and about 2/3s of "COLORADO" on top are visible inside the frame. Still legal, but small enough to fit inside the grill opening with about 1/2" clearance top and bottom and small enough to allow intake air.

To install, I have two long Mollys with plastic screw covers that go through the tag and the grill. Tighten the Molly wings down behind the grill, snap the screw covers closed and paint them to match the tag.

Very  solution to a lousy problem.
