Rearview camera for 2010 GT AWD . . .

Is this a factory option or a dealer installed accessory? You can build it in as an option on the Mazda site, but the 2010 brochure (U.S.) shows in the back as an accessory?

If dealer accessory, what does it cost and is it prewired with the camera in the back?

I trust the garage door openers are still on the rear camera mirror?

Thanks.

Definately dealer installed accessory. If you have a normal rear view mirror you'll have to get the auto dimming display mirror and the camera kit...total $675.00 plus installation. If you already have the auto dimming display mirror, then you only need the camera kit...total $360.00 plus installation.

Had this on my 07 GT and its not worth it. Too small to see effectively. The ones that come with the 2010 Bose/sunroof option is much better. What I would like to see is Mazda have the proximity sensors that beep as you get closer to an object while backing up. I have this plus the camera on my other vehicle and its saved me more than a few times from backing into something or someone in the blind spots.

The auto dimming mirror comes standard on the 2010 GT. How much should installation cost with the camera kit on top of the $360.

The 2010 back camera image also looks very small as its in the mirror. Not sure why they didn't put it in the NAV screen like other car companies. There is no backup chime as you get closer to object, in the 2010 models?

Thanks again.

The back up camera is standard and is located in the console radio screen if you get the Bose/sunroof option. Its much larger than the one in the rear view mirror and has a grid pattern for reference. No back up chime in the CX-9, a major screw up by Mazda, specially if their marketing this vehicle as a family hauler.(headshake

Interesting, it is not listed as standard on the Mazda site and shows as an option when building a 2010 CX-9 GT AWD even with the Bose/moonroof and Nav options selected.

So the rearview camera shows on the Nav screen? Does it fill the entire screen?

You do not have to get nav in order to get rear view camera. The sunroof/bose package for 2010 comes with an 3"X 5"LCD screen to display the radio functions and the rear viewing when backing up. This option also comes with Sirius sat radio and power hatch. This package is the only option listed on our Touring sticker.

Your GT may come with a auto-dimming mirror, but does it come or do you have the auto-dimming "display" mirror? You will need the mirror that has a small display built into it.

I'm a bit confused. To be specific, I'm talking about a 2010 CX-9 GT AWD with the Nav and Bose/sunroof options. Questions are (assuming the rear camera setup is not included) . . .

1. Can the dealer install this, if so, what exactly would they be installing (for example does the mirror already have the display included) and what should the cost be?

2. Does the rear camera display in the mirror as shown in the 2010 brochure, or in the Nav screen for cars equipped as described above?

On a completely separate note, jrtouareg, I test drove the Treg TDI and loved it but too small for my wife; wished it were a bit longer w/3rd row and with memory seats.

Thanks.

Okay, one more time: if you get the sunroof/bose option in the GT or Touring, it will have the rear camera as part of the package and it displays on the 3"x 5" LCD radio screen. This package on my 2010 CX-9 also came with the power hatch. You will not need the rear view mirror display. I had the rear view mirror display on our previous 07 CX-9 and it was pretty much useless.

BTW, thanks for the comments on the Touareg, I have the V10 and love it. The CX-9 is my wife's and she loves it. It replaced the Honda Odyssey minivan.

Same situation with the Nav setup (on the Nav screen, not mirror)?

That V10 TDI is a monster, enjoy.

Correct, CX-9s with nav uses the nav screen for the back up camera. All nav equipped cars come standard with rear view camera. Folks with 2009 and earlier models without nav or 2010 w/out sunroof/bose option, their only option to have rear view screen is with the rear view mirror.

One more thing, the 2010 GT comes standard with auto dimming and homelink on the rear view mirror. This setup will not allow you to add the rear camera screen to it. The accessory auto dimming mirror w/out homelink is the only mirror you can get with the rear view screen. This is why the sunroof/bose option has the 3"x 5"screen on the radio display. So forget about the rear view mirror camera screen if you are buying the GT. Just get one with the sunroof/bose option and it will come with the rear view screen on the radio plus the power rear hatch. Believe me, I went through this same routine with our first CX-9. We ended up with a GT with the rear view camera in the mirror. I had to go to a specialty car shop and they installed the homelink built in on the sun visor. Looked just like a factory installed unit. On our 2010, we ordered the car with the sunroof/bose so we can have the larger console rear view screen.

FYI - nav on the CX-9 is crappy.

Don't let the TDI V10 fool you, its 0-60 in 5.8 sec. and it comes with 360mm brake rotors w/Brembo 6 piston caliper brakes. Doesn't sound like a diesel. Will tow an 8000 lb trailer like its not there.

Beautiful! Now thats what I call having some "huevos" under the hood.

WOW! Your Touareg's power output is in par with the HD trucks of GM, Ford and Dodge.

Not even close in performance. A couple of my buddies have HD trucks (Dodge and Chevy) and I blow them away in acceleration and pass them on the interstate going up a 5% grade while pulling an enclosed trailer weighing 6000 lbs like they were standing still. We were on a trip to a motorcycle race following each other in a caravan. Both of my buddies had 1 passenger each and 2 dirt bikes in each of their HD diesel trucks. I had 3 passengers plus the trailer w/4dirt bikes and gear. When we came up to the 5% grade, they called me on my cell phone to say they would wait for me at the rest area on top of the hill. I let them get a 300 yard head start and then I floored the T-reg. The look in their eyes as I passed them was priceless. While they struggled to reach 60 mph going up the hill, I hit 90mph as I passed both of them and was still accelerating. I had to back off to keep from running over other vehicles on the road. Bear in mind this V10 Touareg has twin turbos but it weighs 5900 lbs plus its full time 4 wheel drive with self leveling air suspension. Just unbelievable. The domestic HD diesels are crude in comparison. All this and I get 20MPG while pulling this weight.

Yeah, mazda failed on this one. Freaking unbelieavable. (moon)

Just like they failed with the early cx-9s with no trip computer. Just wow.
And with the heated seats with no high/low options at least.

2010 has hi/lo seat heaters.

Automakers do this all the time.
They reserve some features for MMC (mid-model change) together with exterior refreshing.

Honda does this predictably. My '01 Odyssey has rear drum brake. In '02, they put in the disc brake w/o raising one dime on price and also changed transmission from 4-speed to 5-speed. Pissed? Surely I was. However, I am used to it now. It is what they do to keep cost down and keep customers (new ones) interested.
