Has anybody heard of this or done it or anything? I want to put in another motor and i was thinking a 13B and then thought "wait, my cars front wheel drive.." then i thought "i wonder if anybody has made a Protege rear wheel drive." Just curious

is it on youtube? it could be done. but probably not worth all the time and money. might as well just go buy an RX7.

RWD and AWD have been talked about before and haven't been done on the forum at least. Most commom swap is a KL swap. A couple of BP swaps have been done also. Of course the car would still be FWD though. But, honestly I would say building the FS motor and fixing the problem areas would yield better results and cost less than trying a 13b and drivetrain swap

AWD would be sick!! but i had in mind a 13B cause it seems like you can get more power out easier. its not that limited. atleast thats what it seems from all the vids an things. whats a KL and BP?

KLDE is a 2.5l v6 that came in the mazda 626, ford probe and I want to say MX6. I think the Millenia had a KL too. The BP I believe came in the earlier model protege, Ford escort, miata and a tracer. Something like that. There is a forum member on here with a spicy msp that has a pretty cool BP swap. The KL swap is all over the forum.

ok. i have 133xxx miles on this car :( and i wanna put another motor in it. but would like to stay in the Mazda family. but still wanna pull better numbers out of the motor then the stock motor

ok. i guess for an 03 vehicle. 133xxx is about average if you say you drive 10,000 miles a year.. plus if i clean the motor up and make it fresh and things. it could be like new again. get brand new parts and stuff.

pretty much, if you rebuild the motor and do the required machine work, it is brand new. Minus the cylinder head if you decide not to go that far.

right. and the BP swap, is that pretty much just a Miata motor? like in Jeffs MSP GTR build. with a toyota trans

i want this car for a very long time and being a 20 year old kid i want some power out of it aswell. but from what i read about the stock MSP its kinda limited to like 300 unless you wanna do lots of work to get up to 400+. i want to put in a motor that doesnt require THAT much work to get high numbers. and isnt that limited either. i know itll take lots of work no matter what engine if you do it right soo..

You can always do a budget built motor. Doesn't need to cost a million dollars.

Keep in mind this car doesn't need a ton of hp to be quick. I've seen plenty of bolt on msps pulling on WRXs, STIs, EVOs etc.

I've always been interested in picking up an awd drivetrain from a Canadian p5... I'd definitely be interested in doing it.. Sure you can just be an Sti, evo or something like that but the protege would be very unique

Anything can be done with $$$. RWD guys will rip out there whole rear suspension and make a new one from scratch and this would be no different.

Basically it would take a lot of work and a creative/visionary mind to get it all put together. So if you have to ask, unless you have deep pockets, NO.

Rods, pistons, all engine gaskets, upgrade LSD, engine management, turbo. Then add everything else as you go.
