Rear turn signal problem

The other day when unlocking the car I noticed the left rear turn signal didn't flash, I figured it was just a dead bulb. When I rode in the car and used the left turn signal it would flash like crazy, like normal. Then for about a day it worked fine. Then the day after that it went to being out again and hasn't come back to working. I took the bulb out and it looked fine (other than the amber color paint flaking off), the filament is till intact, and there are no burn marks. I went to Advance Auto, had them look up the bulb # and I pulled it off the shelf. It ended up being the wrong one, and no one carries it. I've tried NAPA, Carquest, Advance, Auto Zone, even the dealership doesn't have it w/o having to special order it.
The problem I'm having it that the 2 prongs on the side that lock the bulb in and not directly across from each other, they are a bit offset. Every bulb I've got from the other places are directly across.
Any ideas?

Anyone willing to take their rear turn signal bulb out to see if the two tabs on the side of the bulb that hold it into the socket are directly across from each other, or staggered a bit?

Mine are staggered. Also sounds like there might be a short in the wiring somewhere. Prolly a bad ground

I just used a little file and removed the tab that was in the way. Those bulbs have been in there for 4 years with no problems. I am sure there is a bulb that would fit correctly, but since our cars were produced in japan, they may differ slightly from US protege's. Which could be why the guide tells you to use the wrong bulb.

Thanks guys for the help! I'll try filing the tab down. Hopefully the bulb is bad, and not wiring. I can imagine it's aggravating tracing down a short.

Do not file the tab down. The bulb you need is 7507. That will fit with no issue.

the bulb is bad, the filiment might appear ok but its barely hanging on. bumps and stuff might be enuff to make a connection, try turning it on and hiting the housing lightly with the bottom of your fist, it might turn on and off.
