Rear suspension noise

I've seen many posts about front end suspension noise on the CX-9 including clunking or rattling. Has anyone incurred the same symptoms with noise originating from the rear end? I've noticed it for the last several months and has been getting progressively worse. Sounds like metal on metal - almost like popping sheet metal. I think I'm going to lithium grease the rear shocks stops and suspension components as well. Will check back with the results.

Check the muffler heat shields to see if there are scratching against moving components.

I did get under and poke around at the exhaust strappings and heat shield area. No resolution with greasing the rear shock stops. What I have realized the noise sounds like is the rear hatch "click" or the same type clicking noise that you get from a damaged door check (have had 2 of those.) Looks like I'll need to get it on a lift and take a better look. Thanks for the advice.

you could try removing the rear body sill panel and check the gate latch to make sure its not coming loose or something
