rear door speakers

so why are you posting info in the p5 section like you do own one?

here is a lot of good info for the proteges.

http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8940

the audio section here has good stuff. check it out!

also, i just replaced my 6x8's up front with pioneer 6.5s. they come with the adapter. i had to dremmel out the lip on the doors protective cover on the inside so they would fit. they stuck out a bit more than stock, but otherwise they fit nicely. and i wouldnt even bother with the rear. just a waste of time and energy. (they are blocked by the seats pretty much anyways)

The rear doors don't have speakers, just holes for speakers.

Unless the previous owner custom installed them, including running speaker wire, which is much harder than it seems. You either have to destroy the molex in the door that houses power option wires, or you have to drill a hole through the sheet metal of the door and rip into the rubber hose.

I tried the molex idea. Got frustrated, then drilled a hole in my door. Come to think of it, drilling the hole was pretty easy, it just took me a few hours to give up on the molex idea.

I can't believe you said there is no rear speakers in the P5. Yes there are and I replaced mine with 6.5 Pioneers. Very simple. I didn't do the Molex thing I just cut a small hole in the rubber boot and routed it from there. I do not recommend running a set of component in the rear. Any 6.5 will fit though you might need to drill some holes for the screws. I recommend buying self-tapping screws for this.

And to SocialStealth: It is true there are alot of "sedanians" on the P5 forum. Though if you would leave the specific P5 information to us that would be great. Feel free to answer any other questions that the sedan is qualified for or that you have specific knowledge of.

Lots of weird info
Front: 6x8 (not 4x6)
Rear: 6.5"
Oh, and the rear doors are such a b**** to get off that the stock ones will stay until they rot away as far as I care.

If you dont have sound from the rear and theres no wires.. your car is weird..lol
There were 4 speakers stock.. dunno why you wouldnt have them.. there was no audio upgrade offered from the factory that I know of.

The front is actually 4x6. If you try fitting a 6x8 in there you'll end up having to cut the metal. As far as the rear door pannel goes, there are only 4 screws (one of them is a plastic one), and 2 clips and then all you have to do is pull the bottom and lift up.
For the p5 there was a factory audio upgrade, but the only difference that I know of was a disc changer and sub in the spare tire.

Since I've heard a lot of people say they have trouble with the rear door pannel, I'll take a video of it in the morning and then post it up. I'll add a link here too.

my apalogies. when i was installing my speakers this week i took off my rear door panel and low and behold there was a speaker so now armed with the knowledge that there are speakers there i deduced that whoever installed the bad head that i replaced didnt wire the rear speakers in to the aftermarket audio harness. so when i took it in to best buy to have them put in my new head they just plugged that same harness into my new one so im trying to get best buy to just take out the head and check to see if they didnt check to make sure that all the speakers were clipped in when they installed this new head. we'll see if they actually are cool but i doubt theyll double check theyre work.

Just tell them that after they replaced the head the rear speakers stoppped working and you want them to fix it. If they refuse say you want to speak with a manager. Or you can just rewire it, but that would be worse case. It's not exactly easy to run the wires through the harness in the doors.

front door speakers are 5x7. you can see the bracket around them is rather large, thus letting you put 6x8's in there.

Be careful with Crutchfield sizing. A couple of months ago they said the "new" Rockford Fosgate Prime 6.5s would fit in my door. When I get around to purchasing they said they will not fit in my car. So go by the sizing we have here on the forum and you will be fine.

is that out of a sedan or a p5? When I did mine I had to use the pioneer speakers that were specific for ford and Mazda. I couldn't fit any larger than 4x6 without cutting.

Check out the 3rd Gen audio page. It has a list of all the sizes that you will need. You don't need speakers specific for Ford and Mazda just the sizes will do. And some drilling that is.

And you got some Ensolite too. Nice. BTW use gloves when working with the mat and wear long pants and a sleeved shirt. If that stuff gets on you it won't come off easily and you don't want it stuck to your leg hairs. Ouch.

Also, the gloves help your hands from looking like shredded pork with how sharp that damn foil is.

(yes)

i used pants, and actually didnt use gloves. some goo gone took that stuff right off! and i didnt shred my hands at all. except when i took the rear seats out. i messed up my knuckle bad cause i wasnt thinking.

im actually all done with the sound deadening now.

Did you use the entire roll in your front doors? I have about 100 sqft. over my whole car (doors, hatch door, and hatch floor)

i only used about 2/3 of my roll. i did the doors , and entire hatch (door, floor, wheel wells) i was following the sounddeadenershowdown method. the raammat is more to stop resonance, not actually stop the sound. i did however, use almost all of my ensolite. it was a lot of work. i dont know if i will care to do that again.
