Rear Door Speakers 2003 Protege 5

I just wanted to pass along some information. I just purchased some Kicker DS65 speakers for my rear doors. Crutchfield advises that these will not fit the car. They fit like a glove, and sound way better than the stock speakers. Crutchfield advises to get a 5 1/4 speaker for the rear door. A 6 1/2 will easily fit. I hope this helps anyone upgrading their stock speakers.

They are 6.5. I just posted incase someone was looking on crutchfield and was taking their word on the size. I sent an email to crutchfield to correct the size.

They had a deal on infinity speakers a few years ago,buy 2 get another 2 at half price.Just got 2 for the front then,because the "What-fits" thing on Crutchfield said none of them fit the back.
Thanks for the info,I figured it was a window hitting the speaker issue or something.Guess not...

6.5 fit but most require modification to the door panel. There is a plastic rain shield that needs to be trimmed. Hopefully you checked before installing your door panel and possibly damaged the surround. The factory speaker was 6"; the 5.25" fit without modification, so technically Crutchfield is correct although they could note as "slight modification".

You can slightly modify it and fit an 8" speaker if you wanted.
