Sweetest Car Ever
ok so i read the last one and all the name calling. it was entertaining.lol. anyways, say i get a turbo and have to get the car tuned, could i have the speed limiter removed during that??? is it just sumthin they could do by clickin a few buttons?? now to avoid the name calling and non-sense posts ill say that its because maybe once i get boosted ill be able to hit more then 120 in a quarter mile (hey u never know). what do u think the top speed would be without the govornor? cause at like 118 i THINK its at about 5500 RPMs we dont redline till 6500. u think we could hit 140??

depends what the end gear ratio is, in the p5 ive toped out 5th gear a few times, feels around 145mph, not sure...about the governer, im sure there will be some ecu mods soon enough that remove that crap. or you could get a haltech and not worry about it =)

now explain this to me, the haltech is what comes with the hiboost kit, what exactly does havin that do for me???

I think most turbo kits come with a computer mod, and thats one of things i think it would take care of

Yes, but they are full time Engine management systems( haltech and AEM EMS). instead of JUST removing the governor, they take complete control of all engine characterists over the ECU. One good thing they have over stock ecu's is ease of tunability, the ability to remap your fuel system, etc.

the bad news about these systems is of course price. Another thing to consider is that you will def. need a professional installer and a test/tune session to get everything set in the proper fashion.
Personally I don't really trust re-mapped programs w/o actually getting them onto a dyno and checking the A/F. Wouldn't want to risk blowing a motor (pow)

Most ECU mods allow a change in the rpm limit, and I would presume the speed limiter too.

OTOH it is unlikely that you will hit 120mph in the quarter by simply bolting on a turbo. I had trouble getting 108.3 with a car that weighs 300 pounds less than that with rear wheel drive. That mph speed in a 3 would require about 350hp if you can keep it pointed straight.

Word is Japanese 3's can do 135 without any mods, and minus the speed limiter. But that's top end and not a quarter mile speed...two very different things.

you guys have a computer limited top speed? i find that hard to believe. are you sure its not DRAG limited? (aerodynamics dont allow car to go faster) my old nissan was drag limited at 104mph.

I've gotten MY mazda upto 131mph.... no limiter there... only drag limited... and its only a 2.0l...

Yes, it's definitely computer limited to 118.

With full-time engine management computers like the haltech, how do these replacement ECU's handle the variable valve timing and all of the other electro-gizmos that Mazda has put on the 2.3L engine?
Unfortuantly we dont' really know. Nobody bought the unichip in the group buy (the gains were small for the cost investment), and the AEM is so outta the average person's league, it'll be ages before we see a car with one.

The only fellow with the unichip installed has never posted again :(.

Z6speed's going to have the AEM EMS in his Twin Turbo 6 in a few months...but thats still...guess what...a few months away. :)

that sucks goldwing. thats kinda stupid. Big brother is getting more involved in cars! ARGH! nooooooo!
