Rattling and Clunk in the Rear

Anyone know the resolution to this? I tried looking for anything loose, but everything looks and feels tight. I even took off the wheels. :|

I get the rattling when I go over bumps or driving on a bumpy road.

And I got a loud clunk noise one time when making a right turn into a parking lot. There was a pretty deep dip getting into the parking lot and I flexed my right rear tire all the way down. CLUNK!

Both noises sound like they're coming from the right rear.

check the struts. you might have to tighten them up. but its a pain in the ass to do. you have to pull all the interior panels from the rear door sills back. and unbolt the seat belt bracket thing. but thats probably what it is

Could be a loose end link bolt or worn swaybar bushing. Grab the roof rack and shake the car back and forth (on the roll axis)--maybe you can replicate the noise. Have a buddy shake it while you look around down there for the culprit. That worked for me.

Are you on aftermarket suspension?

nope. all stock suspension. I've rocked the back end up and down, but I'll try left and right. I have no roof rack unfortunately. My brother broke em off. :(

gonna check the struts too thanks.

How many miles? Any fluid leaking out of the struts? If you get the car ocsillating up and down and then let go, does the bouncing go away quickly (like 1 cycle)? Any odd tire wear? If you can have someone follow you (or let someone else drive and you follow) is there excessive wheel travel over bumps?

Check the tire jack and it's handle. I had a similar clunk until I wrapped the jack handle in an old T shirt (a towel would probably be better) so that it wouldn't bang around so much.

Loud Noise in the rear- Passenger Side

I have replaced my struts, Bearing mount, rear stablizer links, and it still makes a lound noise, I even removed my jack??

I am lost to what else would cause this?

i have 91k miles.

no fluid leaking. everything is dry and dusty around the struts.

bouncing goes away pretty quick. one thing i notice is if i'm on a bumpy street with a lot of patches/repairs to pot holes the car will rattle like crazy!!! like there's no stability.

I had to buy new tires because the tires my brother purchased were used so it was hard to tell if there was any odd tire wear.

i don't have the stock jack or anything. my brother broke it so i threw it away.

i'll try to have my wife drive in a parking lot over some speed bumps and i'll check out if there's excessive wheel travel. who knows maybe the struts are blown?

At 91k miles, your struts could easily be dead. They're supposed to be replaced at 60k, although some go twice that far without issue. No stability on bumpy roads also sounds like dead struts. Don't know about that rattle, though--new struts *might* fix it.

bleh. i got some prices they are like $60 each. :| I could install them myself to save some cash, but I know they are a pain in the arse! lol

well i found out when I kick the tire, there's a rattle. when I bounce the car left/right and up/down it does bounce 2-3 times. so I know i need to replace the struts.

as far as the rattling its got to be something loose around the wheel. when i kick the tire i can hear the rattling, but i can't pin point it. i see the caliper and spring vibrate when i kick though.

lug nuts tight? Don't laugh. It's happened to me and I've seen it happen to others.

not going to laugh :) its possible. but that's not it on my car. i even removed and reinstalled both rear wheels.

your brother breaks a lot of things doesnt he?

just as an update:
found out the right front and year shocks are out. Car bounces a couple times when tested. Because of that the exhaust pipe hits against one of the bars near the back axle. so I'm gonna have to get new shocks, struts really.
