I was driving on the highway last night and this high pitched whistling randomly started. It almost sounded like it was coming from the base of the windshield but I'm not sure. Has anyone else ever heard this?
Yeah, sounds like a leak somewhere, problem is to figure out where. It might be a crack in the exhaust manifold, turbo pipes, gasket(s) (most likely throttle body gasket), vacuum lines ++
Are you still running those stock plastic hoses from the turbo to the engine?
Is there any hesitation?
Does the sound come completely at random or is it related to how much pressure you put on the engine?
hoepfully not a crack in the E manifold.. but on our cars they can become loose very easily.. just a quick tighten all around will fix that but be careful those bolts are like glass. i have also experienced a loose coupler "which finally blew off" no fun at all but you might try to just go through and tighten them all up just to be sure
It happens totally random and while cruising at the same speed. It has only happened that one time so far but I usually don't drive above 80 which is when I heard it
Was it a constant noise, or did it change pitch and volume? Economy cars can have a variety of random wind noises... If I'm driving in just the right crosswind or whatnot, I'll get a prominent whistle on occasion.
i say maybe ur exhaust manifold is cracked or maybe some of the bolts fell off i know on my car the bolts had to be replaced otherwise maybe its just the turbo screaming

did you look on the heat shield for any black carbon deposits? easy way to see if you have any cracks in the exhaust mani. did you ever check the throttle body and make sure that was nice and tight?
