ran into a mazda3 with a WRX hood. pics!

different is good! personally, I think the 3 hood would take well to a NACA style scoop for whatever purpose one might come up with, maybe an uuber short cold air intake for an eventual turbo setup, who knows?

I think everyone agrees though, huge downforce wings on a FWD car do lend themselves to the term "ricer"... not that you see many of those in Toronto...noooo...

makes it look like a civic si at first glance... if he molded a hood to fit thats a giant waste of money where a scoop could have easily been painted and molded in cheaply. To each his own... if hes cutting springs and what not i dont think hes going to drop the cash on a turbo kit...

He was at FireBird Raceway on 10/30/04 he made a few passes down the track and did OK for Mazda 3 standards.

He had his stock rims powder coated for a while but just got new rims. His hood is black but the grille is still white. Actually makes the grille stand out and kind of looks out of place.

He cut his springs before eibach made a drop for the mazda3.

We have invited him to MAZDASPORTS and he just refers to us as "that Protege club", even though we have not only Proteges, but RX-8's, Mazda 3's, Mazda 6's and Miatas.

If you look for him you can see the white 3 driving towards us.

unfortunately we won't hear back from him because it appears he left the forum after many people who thought they were smarter, cooler, or more informed flamed the crap out of him.

I hate to back the Rice coment...but

Rice-an aftermarket piece (usually a visual upgrade) that adds wieght without adding horsepower. ie: My interior lighting kit is rice.

(I do have interior lighting, so my MSP is a little rice.)

I think that hood is rice because I believe our friend just taped that scoop on the stock hood and it doesn't do ANYTHING. I could be wrong, but I've seen Evo slits and rex scoops for sale that just double side tape to your hood...they just look cool, but there isn't even a hole in the hood! That's what it looks like to me.

yeah. i had actually considered it for my old car (i was a ricer in highschool, blacklights, dodge ram logos, washer leds, altezzas, the whole bit) but thought better of it because it didnt actually do anything...

i saw the car in person. it is an actuall WRX hood with an actual scoop.

so did he modify a WRX hood to fit a 3, or did he weld the area arund the scoop into the stock 3 hood so he could put the scoop on?

lol, props to him for being one of the first guys to do that to a 3. But its hardly different for import standards. I agree that the hood would look very nice color matched. Someone should bait him and ask if he's got a sti swap, lol

yes he modified the hood to fit.

I smell BS

and it stinks

(it's not impossible, but highly unlikely that he figured out a way to bend a WRX hood exactly like a 3 hood (the 3 hood is pretty unlike any car out there/odd shapes and big bends),so I'm not buying it one bit)

from the internet a site that sells wrx scoops (which I saw on a crapy base 2002 Neon the other day):Universal Hood Scoops are made out of Fiberglass, except where noted, and they should be bonded onto the hood with epoxy and preferably blended into the hood to give them one piece look. Prior to bonding it to the hood you may need to trim the edges of the scoop and fill in the gaps in order to make it conform to the shape of your hood. Most of the Fiberglass Hood Scoops already come with cut outs in them for air flow. Additional cut out can be made where needed and the body panels have to be cut also in order to draw air in. All these items have to painted to match the car, preferably by painting the whole hood.

see the "kia rio Sti" thread, the scoop doesn't look as nice as this one, but it illustrates my point.
