OK so I had mazda replace the stock peice of sh*t kenwood about 5 thousand miles ago. Same thing has happened again. Flip down and die. Unfortunantely I have just pasted 50k. I have now decided to for now put a kenwood I just aquired in a trade in as quick fix. I am no newbie at installing headunits. This thing is being a b****. I have the kenwood tools. They arent seemimg to work. I have tried to remove the surrounding dash part. Both the HU and the dash peice seem to be stuck from behind on something. Seems as if I could get the dash peice out then I could see more of whats going on. Any ideas.

I cant totally see behind it but looks like a single wire that looks to be like a metal cable on the inside is what is hanging it up.

Pics of which tools you have?

You will need a harness from best buy... it will make your install much easier.

that dash piece is held on by the two cables for the climate control, but removing it won't really make getting the radio out any easier. If you must though, remove the glovebox and look up and to the middle of the car, you'll see a white box with a cable attached to it.. disconnect that cable, then go to the driver's side and look up and to the middle of the car again.. there's another cable on that side.. then a few plugs on the climate control unit itself (actually just 2 I think)

u know i always have the same problem. Radio dies.....i just reset it and it works again. Of course you have to reprogram all your settings. But easier and cheaper. BTW a mazda dealer told me it keeps causing my radio to mess up from playing copied cd's in it. How else would you be able to play MP3's.

GL w/ your project.

i know what u mean i just bought my msp in august and my stearo just died while i was on the phone and i have been waiting for almost three weeks for my new stearo from mazda - and the thing is that my car already had three units in there already!! i think that when the new one that is going in there dies then im gonna get an lcd screen, but good luck on ur install

Are you guys talking about your headunit stopping halfway closed? That's what mine is doing right now, and it's just stuck open. How do you reset the radio? I tried pulling the 15A radio fuse in the fusebox, but that didnt seem to do much.

edit- just read FAQ on resetting the radio...

my radio did that tonight.. it just opened halfway and stuck there.. i should have waited and read this and tried to reset it.. i bought a pioneer mp3 player with a normal faceplate .. no motors or pivots and s***.. i got tired of hearing it flip at cold temperatures and whine like a mofo..

Can I just b**** a little. I just had the 3rd Kenwood put in my msp and now get a TOC error everytime I play a cd. I'm sick of it. Anyone with replacement recommendations or warn away from any brands?

i had to replace my kenwood the day i got the car. i replaced it with a pioneer and now only my tweeters, the drivers door and the two rear door speakers are the only ones that work. My buddy who works at Circuit city in the install bay say that a lot of time when u have a premium sound system in a car if u change the head unit u may need to replace the whole system. he is going to look for an adapter piece to make it so i don't have to replace everything cause that would be expensive. i will let everyone know what he finds when he gets back to me on that

i replaced my headunit with an alpine and it works just fine....i mean for bad sounding stock speakers anyway...

me,

i brought back the pioneer 24 hours i bought it.. the sound was bad.. and no woofer control.. then went for a sony xplode with a USB plug on it so you can put a memory stick with mp3s on it and it plays great!! no TOC problems, and any problems at all!!

Okay... my piece of s*** Kenwood has gone out on me for what is now the 10th time. I just recently went over 50K miles, so it is no longer under warranty. This time was a little different though. The faceplate is stuck closed but you can still hear the motor running. The motor runs continuously, even when the car is off. I'm afraid this will drain my battery. I tried pulling the fuse, but that damn thing keeps on running. Anyone have this problem? I guess at this point I need to buy a new head unit, but I already have the Kenwood iPod integration kit. Anyone have any ideas of a good Kenwood unit that actually works?

jesus christ 10 times?! im on my 3rd one and i just rolled over warranty so my fingers are crossed.

(rofl2) almost exactly what I did...

I purchased my car with a bad oldschool pioneer in it that I replaced with a pioneer 6800 I had laying around.

now all speakers with the exception of my drivers side door (opposite of yours) works... The tweeters also are extremely light. the drivers side door actually plays intermittenly though...

It hasnt bothered me soo much at the moment, the system is in line to get replaced (nothing is staying) so Ive been putting it off. One of these days Ill actually pull the headunit and go through the wiring... everything suggests it to be a short, I just havent found the source so far...
