racing seat thread.

sparco actually makes a bracket for the protege that has an oem seatbelt latch on it. so if you get sparcos, no worries about the bracket

Arospeed, installed them on the original places. (naughty)

They are as legal as normal seatbelts over here in holland.

I only wanna use the harness for autox... so that's why I was asking if you could seperate the sholder straps from the waist straps... someone has gotta know...

Shroths are, also they are much more comfortable and padded than those crappy sparcos. I had them in my mr2 and as long as the harness is at the proper angle I believe they are much safer than a conventional seatbelt. I even jumped a curb once about 2ft in the air hit a guardrail and spun and didnt even hit the window with my head. I was held in place nicely and had I had a conventional seatbelt on I probably would have gotten quite banged up.

he said in a rollover though...They keep your head and neck fixed in a rollover too, and without a roll-bar, your head and neck will most likely get crushed....a standard 3 point belt will allow you to be pushed to the side...You will still be hurt, but possibly live...

Been doing lots of research on Recaros. Have written a few threads, so I'll update this one as well.

Authentic Recaro brackets for the Protege should be realeased next month (Sept 2004) according to my contact a few months ago. They are imports from Japan and are being crash tested, etc. here in the States as we speak. All Recaro seats and brackets are TUV approved and are considered safe. Up until now, if you bought thru Recaro, you would get the Wedge brackets.

Recaro DOES make aftermarket seats that will fit our cars. I sat in the Recard Speed and, although sporty, were way too confining in thigh area (and I'm very thin) to be comfortable. If you want a comfortable Recaro for everyday driving, look at the LXF. This is their more classic looking model that has been around for many years, which I think is attractive (yes, some of you will think it looks outdated, but I like it).

Went and sat in all these Recaro seats (and more) at a dealer in CA who has been selling them for about 20 years and he said that he sells a LOT of the LXF and installs them in BMWs and other cars where everyday comfort is important. He highly recommends the LXF for quality and comfort--I agree.

The Speed model is airmed at younger, more sporty drivers, so that may appeal to some of you.

My two cents.

the LXF and the speed have different goals in mind you're right. LXF more towards comfort while the speed is more for a sporty feel that'll hold you in. for me, i tend to lean towards the latter choice since i do like to do spirited driving or track road race events every now and then. the higher side thigh supports do serve a purpose and for long drives i would bet it wouldn't feel to good. depends on the intention of the seat and car i suppose. the vinyl black with naps saturn 'speed' seat feels awesome.

recaros are definitely stepping up even higher in the US market and are now being readily available as well as cheaper then they used to be. although, wait time if the shop doesn't have them in stock might take some time as recaro employs the "we don't make it till you order it" philosophy.

I have heard that DAD seats are the same thing (ie- made at the same place byt the same people) as Sparco Torinos. Can someone verify this? I have always wanted a set of Torino 2's, but the DAD's are cheaper.

I have a Corbeau GTSII in my EK. Although not listed, Corbeau does make a bracket for the P5. Still deciding whether I want to switch it over to the P5(headroom is an issue with me). It's comfortable for long rides and yet holds you in very well around the bends. It may not have harness holes but it also doesn't attract the thieves so much(a couple buddies of mine had their seats stolen). No cons on the seat at all.

Feel free to send any of those "random parts" my way if you feel that you are getting too cluttered...

lol/// will keep you in mind if I do any house cleaning.
that little box beside the seat has stock shift bushings, exhaust hangers, front motor mount, in front of the box is a momo shift boot, momo shift knob beside it. decided not to use either one, and theres one stock mp3 spring the rest are about 3 feet over stacked up around a lamp lol. theres a lot more stuff sitting on the other side of the room lol.

sparco manufactures their seats in house so i highly doubt it. quality wise looks on the bland side. they look more like corbeau a4 look and quality. *shrug* to each their own. a sparco is a sparco after the wear and tear.

Anyone have the Corbeau CR1? They are a good price, and I have heard good things about Corbeau in general. Also, does anyone that lives in Michigan know if there is a dealer around here that sells a bunch of different brands? I have only sat in Sparcos (awesome) and APC (not impressed) over at Scamchargers.
